Perc Trax Label Showcase :
Perc is one of electronic dance music’s reference points: an internationally touring DJ, label owner and one of the most respected producers in techno today. Known as one of the most forward-thinking individuals in techno Perc (aka London based Ali Wells) fuses current sounds with his extensive knowledge of electronic music’s past to create something new & unique. A regular artist on such scene-leading labels as CLR, Kompakt, Drumcode, Stroboscopic Artefacts and Ovum as well as his own world-reknown Perc Trax imprint, Perc is as uncompromising as he is unique.
As a DJ, Perc has taken to the decks across the world in seminal clubs such like Berghain, Fabric, Cocoliche in Buenos Aires, Space Ibiza, Tresor, Unit in Tokyo and many more. His sound is a fusion of the cream of current techno mixed with choice selections from electronic music’s forefathers.
Production-wise the last few years can be described in two words ‘Wicker & Steel’ – the title of Perc’s debut album, released on Perc Trax in June of 2011 and which has lifted him to a new level of respect and recognition. In the last year Perc has diversified with remixes for Factory Floor on DFA, Black Asteroid on Electric Deluxe, Mike Parker on Edit Select and Oscar Mulero on Warm-Up, plus two EPs; the searing statement of intent that is ‘A New Brutality’ on Perc Trax and Guardian single of the week ‘Pure & Simple’ on Sleaze. This coupled with his busiest ever year of gigs including debut appearances in Argentina, Australia, Singapore and Finland has meant his sound is better known and more influential than ever before.
Enigmatic Mancunian duo AnD famously rose to prominence in 2011 after a slew of ground breaking releases characterised by their refurbished, stripped back and Dave Clarke inspired brand of techno. True vinyl purists, the two maintain strong analogue production ethics and showcase this in their heavy hitting live show.
AnD’s modernistic approach has been endorsed by trailblazing UK imprints Project Squared and Idle Hands, whilst their purist ideologies have been employed by the visionary Horizontal Ground, Black Sun Records and Repitch labels. The two have also seen a release on Felix K’s Hidden Hawaii and Krill Music alongside Jonas Kopp. Together with Tom Dicicco, the three artists established Inner Surface Music, which has already garnered support from the likes of Regis, Surgeon, Lucy, Norman Nodge, DVS1 and many more.
Embracing the shadowy outskirts of techno, AnD’s covert productions on their own self-titled white label series looks to push them even further into their own brand of sonic destruction. In doing so AnD follow in the footsteps of UK luminaries Surgeon, Regis, James Ruskin and The Black Dog by continuing to shape a genuine and unflinching vision of techno.
Bleaching Agent is a mercenary producer currently affiliated with Mira, Opal Tapes, Komisch, and a whole host of others. Having already gained support from the likes of Mosca, Dave Clarke, Nina Kraviz and the rest, he has re-established himself as an exciting and original thinking producer.
Building on the success of the project’s first releases, he has returned as a DJ, 3 years after giving it up to pursue a brief career as a local broadcaster and voiceover artist.
Adapt have been throwing excellent underground techno parties in Manchester for the last few years. They have brought a whole plethora of names to the UK for their monthly basement parties, always pushing the cutting edge of techno and electronica. Ones to watch for the future!
