Four floors of African film and animation, celebrating the vibrancy and diversity of African cinema. With talks, poetry, story-telling, art, live music and food
From the animated family classic, Kirikou and the Sorceress, to Town Of Runners, a documentary exploring the heritage of Rawandas long distance athletes and Fela NYC: Fresh from Africa. The hard-hitting film about Nigerian king of Afro-beat Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s (pictured) 1986 visit to New York.
Look out for many more award winning films throughout the day and night from across the vast continent - including Nollwood Babylon, A screaming Man, The Naked Option, First Grader and the powerful and poignant War Dance.
As well as film we'll also be exploring the legacy of African music. Tracing it's many a varied path across the planet via a late night session championing and charting the many sounds and forms of black music on 2 floors. Then to now. With [Level 1] Afro-rock artists Yinka performing Live, followed by South London Soul Train host Mickey Jazzheadchronic Smith exploring the soul & funk of it all. Then on level 2 DJ Niva kicks off alongside special guest spoken word artists , followed by the most excellent DJ Tom Unlikely Stiedl, closing with special guest The Legendary Flashin Eddie Fowlkes who'll be flying in from Detroit to deliver a 4 hour globalistic set exploring very much "the now of sound". The fusion of it all.
