Residents: Kezla, Thomas Olivier, Jonathan H, Will Crawshaw, David Garfit & Will Matiu
Waxwerks hosted by Afro Coalition
Back in early 2011, the idea of BeatStreet was born. Later that year threw our first party and since then, we've gone from strength to strength, holding residency at the UK's best small club; The Garage, Leeds. We've given Leeds debuts to premium standard DJ's such as New Jack City, Fuse boys Seb Zito and Chris Lattner. Amongst others, jet-setting artists like Subb-an and Darius Syrossian have joined us along with many more top DJ's, live acts and brands.
As we near our second birthday, we just so happened to go and book what's without a doubt our biggest party to date. We can safely say this will go down as one of the biggest, yet most intimate events to hit Leeds this year.
BeatStreet brings to you a showcase from one of the worlds most recognised house & techno cross-over labels; Moon Harbour.
Since its inception in 2000, the Leipzig-based label has released tracks that've been a big part of the summer soundtracks of party goers all over the world. Amongst their massive catalogue of quality releases are tracks such as the sample heavy, hypnotic looper that is Santos' "Hold Home" and the dance floor punishing "Strange Neighbours", the brainchild of Marco Faroane & Arado. Their roster also features names such as ViVa music boss Steve Lawler, Luna City Express and Kabale Und Liebe, to name but a few.
It's with major excitement we can say flying the flag for Moon Harbour is it's founder and owner, one of Circoloco's top dogs, the mighty Matthias Tanzmann. That's right, Tanzmann in a room that can hold no more than 400 people, which as you should well know is rare, "rare" being just a bit of an understatement.
It seems every man and his dog have been to DC-10 at some point over the past couple of years. If you've been one of the lucky ones, you've no doubt seen this guy quite literally bring the place to its knees As one of the Worlds most in demand DJ's, Matt frequents events such as the infamous Circoloco at DC-10, where he's had a residency for several years. His spectrum of music transcends scenes and he's a regular on much more techno oriented bills such as Timewarp in Mannheim and Love Family Park in Hanau, Germany; festivals that draw crowds of over 14,000 people to each event.
On top of being a massively experienced and accomplished DJ, Matthais is a solid producer who primarily releases via both his own imprints Moon Harbour and it's awesome sister label Cargo Edition, but has also featured on labels owned by the likes of Josh Wink (Ovum) and Alex Niggeman (Poker Flat) which speaks volumes as to how highly he's thought of in our community. We can't wait for the carnage he's going to be bringing along with him.
Alongside Matt, is a trusted and senior member of his Moon Harbour artists roster Ekkohaus.
Ekkohaus, he's performed as a DJ and live act for around the last 8 years and for anyone who's witnessed his sets, they're a quite the experience. An eclectic mix of dance floor based electronic music lingering somewhere in-between the deep house and techno persuasions.
Kostas Tassopoulos (aka Ekkohaus) started his musical journey by teaching himself drums, studying vibraphone and marimba, leading onto him earning a degree in Music and Multimedia Technology. He has been producing various forms of electronic music since the mid nineties. His musical journey has taken him from living in London for a number of years then moving to Berlin where he continues to live and work until now, making appearances at some of Europes premier clubs such as Panoramabar in Berlin and the Harry Klein club in Munich.
These experiences and the inspiration he drew from them, along with hours in the studio turned him into a producer who's attracted the attention of both Moon Harbour and Cargo Edition, as well as other incredible labels such as 20:20 Vision and Fear of Flying. This year saw him release perhaps his strongest effort to date in the shape of his "NoSchool" album through Moon Harbour, gaining support from everybody from Joris Voorn to Dubfire, and DJ W!ld to DJ T.
We can't wait for 5 hours of Moon Harbour and will be expecting to hear classic tracks from the labels back catalogue as well as tons of unreleased bits forthcoming on the label from it's owner and one of their most revered signings.
Like that isn't enough - we'll be expanding The Garage by opening the hidden upstairs room later on in the night for our residents to do their thing. It's been upgraded with new lights and sound-system and makes room for a few more dancing feet as well as being an extra bar. This part of the club is very rarely opened, but the offer of adding a fresh dimension to our party was too appealing for us to even think about turning down. So throughout the early hours in that room will be the usual suspects who don't need much of an introduction if you've been clubbing in Leeds for the past couple of years; Will Crawshaw, Kezla, David Garfit, Jonathan H, Thomas Olivier and Will Matiu.
Last, but by no means least - holding it down in the Waxwerks will be the awesome Afro Coalition. Hailing from Leeds these guys could get the dance floor going at any party anywhere. They'll be keeping it a little bit calmer, providing disco, funk, hip-hop, deep house and everything in between.
This promises to be a night to remember, be sure to get your tickets quick as this will sell-out in no time and if you miss this, you'll be missing out, massively!
