Inkswel, Bedmo Disco, Rockit Science
Bedmo Disco Presents returns for a first outing of 2015, and we've managed to secure the services of one of our favourite DJ/producers - Melbourne drum machine soul hero INKSWEL.
The Australian DJ, producer, musician and self-confessed “drum machine obsessive” – real name Jules Habib – is undoubtedly one of the rising stars of Australian electronic music. Since first appearing on wax back in 2009, the Melbourne-based producer has crafted a trademark sound that effortlessly joins the dots between electrofunk, modern boogie, soul, ‘80s electro, deep house, wide-eyed disco and the kind of mutant machine jams that defy easy categorization.
Over that period, he’s released on a variety of killer labels, from Rush Hour offshoots Boogie Bash and Dopeness Galore, to Edinburgh-based Unthank, well regarded house imprints Wolf Music, Burek and People Must Jam and the always excellent Faces and Omega Supreme. In 2013 he also established his Hot Shot Sounds label with longtime Melbourne pal Benny Badge (AKA Freekwency), which was responsible for Rock The Box Volume 1, one of the compilations of 2014. Last year he also joined long established label BBE, releasing the acclaimed Southern Hemisphere Lovin’ mix CD, his first commercially available DJ session.
Habib is a serial collaborator, too, and has over the years worked with some killer names around the world, including Chicago’s Tevo Howard and Merwyn Sanders (he of Virgo Four fame), Amsterdam’s Tom Trago, Portuguese Balearic head Tiago, and London-based soul boy Yam Who. Oh, and a string of homegrown Melbourne producers, including the hugely talented Andras Fox.
We’re naturally delighted to have secured his services for one of only two UK gigs on his Spring 2015 tour. We can’t wait to show him the sights and sounds of Bristol (it will be Jules’ first trip to the West Country, as far as we know), and of course hear his selections at Big Chill Bristol. We say this every time we book a guest for Bedmo Disco Presents, but this will be a party not to be missed.
Support will come as always from Bedmo Disco – AKA Five-Stylez, Awon and Sell By Dave – while ROCKIT SCIENCE will be bringing the party vibes up in the study. We’ve got a lot of time for RS main man DJ Ryu, so we’re delighted that he’ll be holding it down upstairs.
Entrance will be free before midnight and £3 after. Head down early to avoid disappointment – Inkswel is keen to play for three hours (and
