Laurel Halo, Lee Gamble (live) A/V w. Dave Gaskarth, Vatican Shadow
October 29th sees three distinctive pioneers in modern electronic music take on the Ovation mantle: Laurel Halo, Lee Gamble Live AV show and Vatican Shadow.
Heavy, mutilated strains of electronic music with influence from the sounds of Detroit, UK, Jamaica and Germany – Laurel Halo’s music is a shapeshifting mess, moody and ecstatic, with flashes of rhythmic brilliance mediated by modal simplicity. With a new double EP due for release in September on London label Honest Jon’s, this will be one of the first live shows for her anticipated new material.
Joining her will be alternative techno experimentalist Lee Gamble with his new, never-before-seen live AV show. Having grown up on a diet of pirate radio and jungle in his formative years in Birmingham, Gamble proceeded to create an abstract sculptural form of computer music in the early 2000s. His music since then has undergone something of a further reinvention: his deconstruction of Jungle on Diversions 1994-1996 released on the PAN label received wide critical acclaim and ranked highly in many end of year charts in 2012, while his full length Dutch Tvashar Plumes released a month later was far more techno-indebted. For this special Ovation show, he will once again be partnering with fellow Birmingham born designer and collaborative visual artist, Dave Gaskarth to debut a brand new AV show.
Also confirmed is Vatican Shadow, the ‘Militant Religious Industrial’ outfit from multi-media artist Dominick Fernow. Currently residing in the Los Angeles desert, he has set up Bed Of Nails Compound, a new imprint for industrial techno and electronic environments. Vatican Shadow's melodic loops and militant rhythms conspire upon the world stage of conflicts, where it isnt clear what side you are on or who is winning.
