Respected Beggars Residents
Fri Feb 19 • SUBMIT celebrate 4 years of parties with a 2 floor House, Techno and Bass takeover of The CLF/Bussey ft. Dauwd, Lo Shea in Room 1 plus The Respected Beggars with Ge-ology and Yadava in Room 2
SUBMIT have spent the past 4 years showcasing the best in underground sounds, blasted through stacks of speakers throughout our South London home and beyond. It's SUBMIT tradition to celebrate our Birthday in style, having previously blown out our candles with Loefah, Dark Sky, A Made Up Sound/2562, Alex Smoke, Om Unit & more. This year is no exception as we welcome the incredible talent that is Dauwd to headline with support from Sheffield’s finest Lo Shea, plus the ever-reliable team of SUBMIT residents for a night of deep, rolling Techno, House and Bass with some serious low-end reinforcements. The Respected Beggars host the 2nd Floor - flying in New York Producer/DJ Ge-ology to play alongside Yadava and residents for an eclectic playlist of Deep House, Soul, Jazz & Disco.
Dauwd is a producer whose impressive output has focused on quality over quantity. Early EP’s ‘What’s There’ and ‘Could It Be’ exhibited a diverse range of UK influences from Garage/Dubstep to House/Techno. These first releases firmly established his signature sound - organic and evolving arrangements backed with tightly-coiled bottom end production and driving percussion.
In 2014 Dauwd joined Kompakt Records releasing 2 EP’s of bass-loaded House & Techno that leant towards the minimalism and melancholy that defines the labels ‘Cologne Sound’. Another EP for Kompakt in 2015 ‘Jupiter George’ saw a further step away from UK influences, combining delicate atmospherics and shuffling drum work centred around a funked-out bass and guitar groove.
As a selector Dauwd is in constant demand internationally, performing at dance music institutions such as Berlin’s Panorama bar (alongside Martyn and ItaloJohnson) and he has recorded mixes for the likes of XLR8R, Clash Mag, The Fader & Boiler Room.
In support is another DJ/producer of the highest calibre, almost singlehandedly responsible for rejuvenating Sheffield’s nightlife Liam O’Shea is the owner and resident DJ of Hope Works. Hope Works has seen an extensive selection of international talent come to perform alongside the warehouse agitator-in-chief himself, as well as regularly moving the masses on his home turf Lo Shea has found time to release a devastating catalogue of Bass-Heavy dancefloor destroying 12”s. Initially releasing on his own labels Seaghdha and Hope Works he has since put out Waxy goodness via Phonica, SZE, Transit and more.
Lo Shea is a beast on the controls and we can’t wait to host him in our favourite South London Warehouse spot, The Bussey Building. To get a taste of the fire soon to be released check his recent contribution to the RA podcast series for a whirl through Techno, Bass & UK hardcore stylings.
2nd Floor hosted by The Respected Beggars
Revered New York DJ/producer Ge-ology has worked with a serious list of weighty names - Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Jill Scott, De La Soul, Yukimi Nagano (Little Dragon) - as well as contributing to Theo Parrish’s renowned Sound Signature label. Ge-ology performs across Europe, Asia & beyond, inspiring soulful movements on the dancefloor wherever he travels.
The amiable tastemaker Charlie Bones needs little introduction round these parts of town. His extremely entertaining and thought provoking breakfast show Do!! You!!! has made a profound impact on the UK underground music scene and beyond. While his extensive musical knowledge and passion makes him the perfect man to support Ge-ology.
Co-founder and resident of soulful groove merchants ‘So Flute’, Yadava is an eclectic vinyl selector of the highest calibre. Playing on the bill with heavyweight heads including Gilles Peterson, Dego & Kaidi, Andrew Ashong, Andrés and more expect nothing but quality from another top quality northern export.
