Antony Williams aka ADDISON GROOVE has been at the forefront of UK bass music for the better part of a decade. After making a name for himself in the UK dubstep scene under the pseudonym HEADHUNTER, he took an interest in the juke/footwork sounds emerging from Chicago just as they were beginning to capture the attention of forward-thinking DJs and producers worldwide.
His appreciation for footwork ultimately inspired the highly influential genre-bending break out “Footcrab” in 2010, which paired the fresh sounds of Chicago juke with the slower tempos of UK dubstep. This combination was well received (to put it lightly) and paved the way for more of the freewheeling cross-genre experimentation that Addison Groove has since become known for.
Growing up in Bristol, a city known for it’s outsized musical footprint and heavy bass weight, Tony was exposed at an early age to the hardcore, jungle, and drum&bass music that emerged from the UK rave scene in the ’90s. While he draws from these and other contemporary UK styles like grime, he also cites such varied influences as Angolan music of the ’60s and early jazz. All of this is highly evident in his DJ sets, which span a wide array of genres and tempos.
As a producer, Tony has developed a sound that is unmistakably unique, scoring him releases on high profile labels such as MODESELEKTOR’s iconic 50 WEAPONS and the venerable HYPERDUB, as well as collaborations with footwork champions RASHAD (RIP) & SPINN and drum&bass legend DJ DIE.
