For our next party, MNML SSGS moves to Unit. Headlining are two of our favourite DJs: Silent Servant and DJ Nobu. This will be Silent Servant's first club gig in Tokyo since he played a killer set at our party at Air in October 2014. In the time he has been away, Silent Servant has continued to hone his distinctive take on techno that blends it with EBM, new wave and post-punk. Jealous God, the label he started with Regis and James Ruskin, has distinguished itself with a series of collectable EPs from himself, Broken English Club, In Aternam Vale, Terence Fixmer, Damien Dubrovnik. It has forthcoming releases scheduled from Beau Wanzer and Pye Corner Audio amongst others, before the label will come to an end. Through curating the label, his productions, and his DJing, Silent Servant has distinguished himself as one of the most essential voices in contemporary electronic music. Joining him will be DJ Nobu, who is now regularly playing in Europe at all the big clubs and festivals. The world finally understands what we have known for some time: Nobu is a serious DJ. There is not much more we can say about Nobu at this point. We love him, he’s the don of Japanese techno and we are very happy to have him back playing for us. Rounding out the mainfloor will be Moopie, an Australian DJ currently based in Berlin. Moopie has opened for Silent Servant before, and did such a good job, he was subsequently asked to make a mix CD for the second Jealous God release. Moopie is a talented DJ with huge potential and he is sure to provide the perfect opening for the night.
Downstairs in Saloon, music will be provided by artists associated with Silent Servant’s favourite record store in Tokyo: Big Love Records. Located in Harajuku, Big Love has developed an international reputation, famed for its range of records, tapes, zines and merchandise, with a strong sense for the most interesting sounds and trends. P.I.G.S. will be playing live, having recently had a tape on Total Black, a prolific label that has released music by Varg, Shifted (as Alexander Lewis), Kareem, and Cremation Lily. And DJing will be Sapphire Slows, michihiko ishidomaru, CHIRO and YU.
Come join us on 1 October for a night of adventurous and quality music.
