AND THIS YEAR’S HEADLINER IS... ORBTIAL
When Orbital played a headline set at Glastonbury in 1994 they changed the face of dance music forever. Wearing their trademark head-mounted torches behind banks of equipment, the Hartnoll brothers mixed and sequenced their tracks on the fly, helping to bring dance music to the masses. Having hung up their glasses in 2004, the techno timelords are back where they belong and it’s a real privilege to have them as this year’s official Get Loaded in the Park headliners. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of their classic debut single ‘Chime’ – one of the greatest dance records of all time and with the release of new album ‘Orbital20’, the iconic duo will be playing their only London Festival appearance of 2009 in the darkness on the Get Loaded Main Stage. Bringing the festival to its climatic finale, Orbital return with a spectacular new audio/visual show promising wall-to-wall anthems all the way. Contemporaries of the Chemical Brothers and Underworld, Orbital enjoyed a dazzling 15-year stint before bowing out gracefully four years ago. Raised in suburban Sevenoaks, near the M25 orbital motorway - which inspired their name, Paul & Phil began honing their unique brand of home-grown electro long before the acid house boom gave British pop a much-needed kick up its baggy trousers. Between 1989 and 2004, Orbital released a string of addictive, eclectic singles including ‘Chime’, ‘Style’, ‘Belfast’, ‘The Box’ and ‘Satan’. Many became evergreen club anthems; some even became Top 3 hits. During their seven-album career, Orbital developed an enviable live reputation, playing knockout mega-shows to huge crowds from Glastonbury to Woodstock to the Royal Albert Hall. Q magazine rated their 1994 Glasto show as one of “Top 50 Gigs of all Time” and later included Orbital in their list of “50 Bands to see before you die”. Well now it’s your chance. Improvised, innovative and live and direct on Clapham Common this summer... get ready for a legendary comeback!
“We’re really excited to be playing at Get Loaded. It should be a fantastic way to end the summer festival season and we’ve heard some great reports from friends who have been. It’s brilliant to be playing a big outdoor show in London.” (Paul Hartnoll, Orbital)
GET LOADED MAIN STAGE:
Over at the Main Stage, plonk yourselves next to the sacred tree and soak up the day’s sun-drenched sounds from rising stars Telepathe, to Aussie sensations Sneaky Sound System and South Africa’s numero uno DJs Goldfish. Feel the funk from Finger Lickin’s Krafty Kuts and the always tasty Tom Middleton, before the evening session with Bestival’s brilliant Rob Da Bank. [Adam] Freeland showcases his sensational new live show, whilst dnb’s legendary Roni Size Reprazent plays his only UK Festival appearance of 2009 in the afternoon sun. Techno pioneer Carl Craig will be reforming his ‘Innerzone Orchestra’ for an exclusive performance featuring a brand new line-up of musicians and string orchestra. Re-scoring the entire Innerzone catalogue and introducing new additional instruments, this new show has never been seen or done before anywhere in the world! And topping the whole thing off with an explosive headline performance will be the formidable return of electronic icons Orbital, back together again.
THE OTHER STAGES:
London radio station XFM (with www.Gigwise.com) rock up to host their annual stage boasting an unmissable mix of multi-genre and mega-talented acts. Scandinavian princes Röyksopp headline with one of the most hotly anticipated sets of the day, supported by some of our big tips for this year... Esser, Mpho, Marina & The Diamonds and rapping sensation Trip. Watch this space! Noise-makers Pendulum drop by for a special DJ Set to finish proceedings on a high, leaving XFM hosts John Kennedy & Eddy Temple Morris to curate and DJ their way through the day! New for 2009 is the Clash Stage supported by www.beatport.com & www.Datatransmission.co.uk. Like the magazine, their stage epitomizes a multitude of sounds and styles with Parisian god Laurent Garnier playing an altogether rare live set with his band. Not to be missed! Peaches - the ghetto-mouthed chick with attitude picks up where Iggy left off last year, and fellow former electro-clash stars Miss Kitten & The Hacker are back together with a hot new sound. Dubstep’s finest Magnetic Man feat. Skream & Benga, and dnb’s cult heroes Chase & Status and boy wonder Blame are in town to drop the bass, plus from France we welcome We Are Enfant Terrible and home-grown stars Devils Gun, Live Tech Rebelz and Fish Don’t Dance DJs. This year’s ‘noize’ is played out in the Time Out / Dim Mark stage, in association with KISS. Making their first appearance in the UK, the label’s crowd-surfing main man Steve Aoki is joined by a crack team of party-starters... namely Afro-head dude Felix Da Housecat, Italian bangers Crookers, the magnificent MSTRKRFT [back by popular demand!], London ghetto-bass boys The Count & Sinden, the mask-wearing mash-ups The Bloody Beetroots and veteran spinner Junior Sanchez. And finally, new for 2009 will be the Gio-Goi Bus; an exciting new joint venture with Get Loaded in the Park aimed at raising the profiles of many up-and-coming new artists from the local area, giving them a platform to perform at on a grander scale.
OFFICIAL AFTER PARTY @ FABRIC
The Official After Party to this summer’s Get Loaded in the Park festival has just been confirmed at fabric, straight after the big event finishes over at Clapham Common on Sunday 30th August. Wet Yourself presents Get Loaded in the Park’s Official After Party at the cult London venue featuring a party-starting list of DJs from the festival itself, plus a very special headline guest – exclusive to this afterhours show.
Leading the charge for Get Loaded’s post-in-the-park knees up will be the dynamic duo that is, Simian Mobile Disco. No strangers to fabric’s killer soundsystem, SMD will be dropping dancefloor bombs in Room 1 supported by Wet Yourself Residents Husley & Gunz, Peter Pixzel and Cormac. SMD are set to release their highly anticipated second LP ‘Temporary Pleasure’ anytime now and early reviews are all high-fiving in approval. The boys have drafted in guest vocalists Beth Ditto, Gruff Rhys and Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor amongst others to spice things up, with the new album following their acclaimed 2007 debut ‘Attack Decay Sustain’. Expect a few choice edits on the night from the ever-popular James Ford and Jas Shaw as their block-rockin’ DJ set will be the perfect soundtrack to follow a messy day on the Common!
Over in Room 2 the Dim Mak crew are taking over, lead from the front by label boss and all round Dim Mak guru Steve Aoki. Having hosted their own stage at Get Loaded in the Park earlier in the day, Dim Mak will be bringing the noize to fabric with label cohorts The Bloody Beetroots further showcasing their skills as serious ones to watch, plus look out for special guests on the night!! To round things off, Wet Yourself Friends & Family host the more intimate Room 3 with Stereo Addiction, Kanio, Betoko and John&On overseeing the techno tunage. The Wet Yourself gang have made Sunday nights their own at fabric and this latest Bank Holiday biggie follows their previously epic parties featuring the likes of Miss Kittin, Ellen Allien, DJ Hell and Chris Liebing.
