We couldn't resist a little party in March despite our best efforts... and it's shaping up to be a fun one.
We briefly fly the trusty nest that is the Horse & Groom to be welcomed at a new night time venture: Satchmo's.... a little eye brow raiser of a bar situated on Stoke Newington Road. The venue is playing host to a hearty list of DJ's at the moment and is certainly a spot to watch in the coming months...
Yes this is joyfully off the trampled path and yet uncannily easy to get to! Any bus from Liverpool St and Shoreditch will take you to the door as well as buses from Old St...
In your ears we welcome Cynan Houghton of the textureDJs... Since first taking to the decks in Washington DC in 2003, CYNAN has been wielding a mischievous mix of funky breaks, disco bombs, proper house music and all kinds of jazz-maddened malarkey.
Based now in Oxford, since then he’s racked up a trunk of frequent-flyer miles, playing gigs in the US and UK, from Australia to Edinburgh, from Bestival to V Festival, from voodoo jazz bars to electroholic dancefloors...
Three years and thirty-six podcasts strong, the textureDJs podcast (www.textureDJs.com, or through iTunes) features monthly mixups from a posse with their heads down over the decks almost without pause, but frequently disappointing people round the world by not getting a mix up more often!
Alongside Cynan we welcome back good friend of ours: Steve Lee. Steve's a very busy music man with his Disco not Disco and Mondo Disco connections and now more recently with his new production outfit The Project Club.
Furthermore... we welcome top mate of ours Darren Mathurin to the fray, we've been hoping to get him involved for sometime... Darren started playing electro and break dance back in 1989… coming under the influence of The Smurf, Man Parrish and Herbie Hancock... finding his niche at Dungeons Lee Bridge reservoir where Nightmares on Wax shaped his sound… playing at illegal parties around London and the Southwest back in 1992 he moved from electro into a whole new sound of breaks taking him through Fantazia-Bristol, Wobble-Birmingham and Splendid-Leicester. Over the years playing with Carbon records at their residencies including the Ministry and Home he has further shaped his sound into a unique blend of vibrant Funky Breaks and Deep House…
...other loops brought to you by the residents.
Free before 11 / £3 all night after / RSVP for guaranteed entry
