Tell work NOW that you have a very important wedding to go to (or something) because Sunday November 13 we’ll be hosting a twelve-hour long BYO warehouse party!
The afternoon will blend a mix of obscure electronic, funky jazz and rare afro into an evening of dark disco and out of the box house and techno. The eclectic line up has been inspired by Japanese producer & DJ Powder’s masterful ability to carefully curate a mishmash of music into the most spectacular mixes. ~ POWDER ~
If you’ve read anything about Moko Shibata aka Powder, you’ll know that her creative energies build up during her routine daytime office job, unleashing spectacularly in her small studio in Tokyo when she arrives home late in the evening. Her music is an escape from her professional life and she is building quite a reputation off the back of it.
Her EP’s have been released on Sling & Samo DJ’s label Born Free as well as Lovefinger’s ESP Institute. A quietly impressive launch backed up by mature, complex and groovy house and techno tracks.
After handing a demo tape to Samo DJ, he mused, "Her music makes you dream, and you can hear the same track a million times and not get tired of it."
This is true – give it a whirl – link below!
One. To. Watch.
~ Hannah Lockwood ~
You may know Hannah as one half of Sydney techno due Phile. She is a brilliant producer & audio engineer but can also deliver the goods behind the decks. She’ll be rounding the night out with some dark but hopeful techno.
~ Kali ~
Picnic president, who rarely needs an introduction, Kali never fails to bring the top shelf tunes. With a ridiculously large record collection, we’re excited to see what she digs up and drops the needle on.
~ Valerie Yum ~
Picnic regular, Valerie Yum has energized many a dance floor with obscure and pleasantly odd disco. We’re always glad to have her on board!
~ Mira Boru ~
Fresh off the plane after spending way too long in Japan (Sydney missed her big time) Mira Boru is back to show off her golden discoveries. Always a delightful mix of afro, disco and shiny shiny house, Mira Boru will be playing the perfect slot as the afternoon settles into dusk.
~ Nat James ~
Newly inducted into the Picnic ranks, Nat James has recently played around the place as part of Flight Club. Her record collection lends itself to diverse sets, perfect for the theme of our evening.
~ Jemma Cole ~
One of FBi’s Thump show hosts, Jemma Cole will be easing us into the afternoon with her mix of left field breaks, bass, electro and experimental. A cool intro to an afternoon of differing delights…
