After finally getting through what must have been the weirdest year in history, we've set out to banish the ghosts of an altogether strange and stressful 2016 by bringing the NVWLS party ethos to Hackney on New Year's Day. Already one of the most unique nights of the clubbing calendar, we're putting our own early stamp on 2017 by keeping the entry fee low, the atmosphere electric, the DJs world class, and the vowels non-existent.
For our first ever NYD event, we'll be taking over the spectacular Bloc venue - one of our favourite spaces in the city, known for its progressive attitude, intimate nature, and banging sound system - for another evening of reverent yet forward thinking dance music, provided by what is comfortably our biggest and most reputable lineup to date.
Whenever we've gone out on NYD, the nights have been defined by the hazy and alluring feeling that anything could happen - not least when it comes to the music. By unifying a true star of the UK underground and a US collective with the world at their feet - playing together for the first time, and for the whole evening no less - we've pulled out all the stops spatially and musically to put on a New Year's Day shindig to remember.
And as if that wasn't enough, there's plenty of time to recover as there's no work on the Monday. 2017 looking up already!
DJs ON THE NIGHT
A man of myriad talents that NVWLS has doggedly pursued to DJ since our earliest parties, 2016 saw Fort Romeau cement his status as one of the continent's finest producers, remixers and selectors. A Brighton native now residing in Berlin, the former La Roux collaborator has delivered everything from shimmering house refixes and dynamic dancefloor grooves to minimal constructions and blissed out sonic saharas; with releases on Running Back, Live at Robert Johnson and his own Cin Cin imprint and having already remixed the likes of Alt-J, Lindstrøm and Jacques Greene, it's safe to say we aren't alone in noting his ability.
Having only released his first solo record in 2012, his production and touring career tell you all you need to know about the astounding musical talents on show. We could think of no better act to head up our first event of 2017, and cannot wait to see what such a dance music heavyweight does when presented with a room kitted for sound, lights, and most importantly, atmosphere.
We're truly delighted to announce that Fort Romeau will be joined on the night by some very special guests: San Francisco's very own Honey Soundsystem!
One of the West Coast's most celebrated crews, Honey had a rollicking 2016 of their own, regularly jetting across the pond to play at parties and festivals all over the continent while simultaneously maintaining one of their hometown's most revered club nights. No strangers to setting London alight, we'll be welcoming Jackie House and Jason Kendig to Bloc to play tune for tune with Fort Romeau for the first time ever - a musical mosaic we're beyond excited to watch assemble.
In their own words, Honey constantly meditate on the historical past in order to inform the future. Taking the reigns to start the new year, we can't wait to join them on their mission.
