But as rosy as things were, the next season always brings changes with it. Booom! Ibiza has closed, pushing Defected and Glitterbox to Amnesia and Space respectively. We Love... is no longer at Space. Or on Sundays. After 17 years, the island giant has moved down the road to Sankeys, where it'll occupy the Wednesday slot. For many, We Love... and Space came as a package—will the party survive in pastures new? Thanks to Sankeys' all-out attempt at cornering the UK market, quite possibly. Adding three new nights—We Love..., The Redlight and Shelter—to the likes of Magna Carta, Tribal Sessions and VIVa Warriors, 2015 could be the year Sankeys nails the formula.
The other big talking point surrounds Amnesia, who have a new underground heavyweight on its books: HYTE. The world-conquering promoter will slot neatly between Cocoon and Music On on Wednesdays, bringing the heat with season-long contracts for Loco Dice, Maceo Plex, Chris Liebing and DJ Harvey. As for Cocoon, competition breeds change, and they've gone for a more rounded approach this summer. All the usual heads are there—Sven Väth, Ricardo Villalobos, Adam Beyer—but they'll be joined by a long list of UK talent (Ben UFO, Joy Orbison, Scuba, Leon Vynehall) and many others besides (Nina Kraviz, Art Department, Solomun). Solomun's set is part of a deal with Papa Sven, which will see the Cocoon boss play Pacha for the first time in 20 years. That, and perhaps Apollonia at Music On or Jamie Principal's live set at Paradise, are the summer's most eye-catching sets announced so far (the likes of ENTER. and We Love... are yet to reveal their lineups).
Ibiza is entering a potentially critical phase in its lifecycle. Dance music is more globalised and popular than ever before, with hundreds of festivals, clubs, promoters and destinations now in the offering. Ibiza is still the world's clubbing behemoth, but whether that's the case in five years is probably being decided on its dance floors of today.
Black Coffee will be one of many stars gracing the decks at Circoloco this summer.
Cocoon at Amnesia
Cocoon are rolling the dice in 2015. Competition at Amnesia is fiercer than ever, with HYTE on board and Music On back for a fourth season, leaving Sven and co. little choice but to shake things up. Out go Loco Dice, Chris Liebing and Marcel Dettmann (all to HYTE), and in come Solomun, Art Department, Mano Le Tough, Guy Gerber and Nina Kraviz. Having played a reduced role last year, Ricardo Villalobos is fully back in the saddle, upping his show count from three to six. He'll be bringing some friends with him, too, with Zip and Sonja Moonear each locked in for two dates. There's also the UK contingent—Ben UFO, Joy Orbison, Leon Vynehall, Skream and Patrick Topping will all make their debuts. In an increasingly uncertain market, this new approach might just work.
Circoloco @ DC-10
"Monday Dreamin'" is the perfect tagline for Circoloco—whether you're playing or partying, mixing records or cutting shapes, being a part of DC-10's flagship event is, for many, a dream come true. As ever, the lineups will be announced week-by-week, but judging by the opening you can expect the usual mash-up of superstars (Jamie Jones, Tale Of Us, Apollonia, Kerri Chandler), deeper acts (Black Coffee, Jackmaster, DJ Qu) and stalwart residents (Clive Henry, Tania Vulcano). Circoloco may run like a well-oiled machine by now, but there's still nowhere that captures the freewheeling spirit of the island quite like it.
Aoki's Playhouse @ Pacha
The hyperactive American moves to Monday nights.
DJ Harvey Is Mercury Rising @ Pikes Hotel
As well as his HYTE dates, DJ Harvey will be manning the decks at Pikes Hotel for six Mondays in July and August. The peculiar afterhours spot should be particularly well-suited to the Brit's druggy disco meanderings, and he'll be playing all-night long each time.
CUFF @ Sankeys
Amine Edge & DANCE present a second term of low-slung hip-house.
Clandestin presents Full On Ferry Corsten @ Space
No-nonsense trance from one of the sound's greats, in conjunction with Space's in-house commercial dance night.
David Guetta Pool Position @ Ushuaia
The EDM giant has ten dates poolside at Ushuaia.
With some of the most eye-catching bookings of the season, is 2015 the year Ibiza turns Tribal?
Together. @ Amnesia
Together. will have a different feel this summer, as the team pairs up with another bastion of UK club culture, Defected. Following the closure of Booom!, Simon Dunmore and the Defected clan will take control of the Terrace every week, hosting a mix of party regulars (Dennis Ferrer, MK, Deetron, Oliver Dollar, Guti, Sonny Fodera) and newer faces (Julio Bashmore, M.A.N.D.Y., Kevin Saunderson). Meanwhile in the Main Room, Together. have reinstated Chase & Status as residents, and there are guest slots for Andy C, DJ EZ, Skrillex, Rudimental and many more. Expect Tuesdays at Amnesia to be heaving.
Harder, Faster, Ibiza @ Eden
Hard dance from names like Alex Kidd, Tidy Boys and Kutski.
Fiesta del Agua @ Es Paradis
Get down to the latest chart stompers, and get completely soaked in the process.
Colada Club @ Ibiza Rocks Hotel
This tropical-themed pool party is new from the Ibiza Rocks team. Expect sunny disco, house and fruity cocktails.
Flower Power @ Pacha
DJ Piti mixing up classic rock, pop, soul, funk and disco as only he knows how.
Connect Ibiza @ Privilege
Trance and progressive house are back at Privilege with this new ten-date series. Markus Schulz and Paul Oakenfold are the hosts, and they'll each headline three shows.
Tribal Sessions @ Sankeys
Back for a second season after last year's confident debut, Tribal Sessions will present a more refined version of itself in 2015. With 60 acts booked (compared to 85 in 2014), the emphasis is on forging close relationships between artist and venue. Levon Vincent, SIS and Boddika have been locked in for four shows each, while Scuba, Julian Perez and Ilario Alicante play twice. There are also plenty of eye-catching one-offs, including DVS1, Floorplan, Planetary Assault Systems, Josh Wink, François K and DJ Snoopadelic, AKA superstar rapper Snoop Dogg.
Fuse @ Space
It's all change at Fuse this summer. The East End crew has severed ties with Sankeys and moved to Space, where they'll pursue a more easy-going schedule. So far, they have three dates in the diary—June 2nd, June 23rd and September 29th—where they'll take over the Terrace and Sunset Terrace. There are two other parties planned away from Space, though details of these are still TBA. It might look like a step down for Enzo Siragusa and co, but this could be a classic case of less is more.
Carl Cox @ Space
Carl Cox is a man in his fifties who plays records with the energy and enthusiasm of a teenager. This summer will be his 14th as Playa d'en Bossa's biggest draw, and he'll be joined by the usual raft of top-tier names across 12 weeks. Looking at the lineups, there's little change from years previous—Loco Dice, Carl Craig, Eats Everything, tINI, Cassy, DJ Sneak, Steve Rachmad and Marco Carola all return. The prize for most intriguing appearance, though, goes to Sasha, who will headline the Terrace for the first time since 2012.
Hardwell's Carnival @ Ushuaia
The young Dutchman returns with a new concept in season two, bringing a dose of carnival spirit to Ushuaia's white walls.
It'll be interesting to see how tINI and the gang fares at its new home, No Name.
HYTE @ Amnesia
This year's most exciting newcomer is HYTE, the globetrotting techno and house outfit. The team will usurp La Troya as Wednesday night residents at Amnesia, packing out the club's two rooms with some of the most underground bookings on the island. Floorplan, Rødhåd, John Talabot, Anthony Parasole, Bicep, Marcel Dettmann and Matthew Dear will all play at least once, while Loco Dice, Maceo Plex, DJ Tennis, Chris Liebing and DJ Harvey have season-long contracts in place. First there was Cocoon, and then there was Music On—will 2015 see HYTE steal the crown?
People Like Us @ Beachhouse
Guti's party has already touched down in New York, Paris and Barcelona, and now it'll take up residency in Ibiza across several weeks in June and September. Funnily enough, the Argentine will play his trade at Beachhouse, a stone's throw from tINI at new home No Name. If they're smart about it, this could work in both their favours.
Jamie Jones presents A Planet Called Paradise @ DC-10
Paradise's popularity knew no bounds in 2014, surprising everyone—including Jamie Jones. Considering how easily they filled DC-10's two rooms last year, you'd expect the whole club to be at their disposal from week one, although this is unconfirmed. What we do know, though, are some of the artists playing. Among the Paradise debutants (The Martinez Brothers, Bob Moses, Adam Beyer), heavyweight guests (Dixon, Marco Carola) and familiar favourites (Craig Richards, Ryan Elliott, Eats Everything), one name stands out: Jamie Principal, who will perform live.
Holi Garden Festival Ibiza @ Gala Night
After a six-date run in 2014, the colourful, Hindu-inspired party will try a full 18-week season. If you go, wear old clothes—you're going to get doused in a mix of powdered paint and coloured water.
Ibiza Rocks @ Ibiza Rocks Hotel
Ibiza's favourite indie night turns ten this summer. To celebrate, they have Jungle, Clean Bandit, Fatboy Slim, Rudimental and Spandau Ballet, but the real standout is a July 22nd birthday bash headlined by The Libertines.
tINI and the gang @ No Name
After two full summers at Sirocco Beach, now feels like a good time to move for tINI. Not that she's going very far. tINI and the gang's new spot is No Name, the Playa d'en Bossa shack that became popular thanks to afterhours sessions with Jamie Jones, Apollonia and Luciano. There are no details yet, but expect another healthy serving of groovy, dubby DJs and live acts.
Martin Solveig My House @ Pacha
The French DJ has broken away from Pure Pacha to start his own residency, enlisting support from Diplo, Tiga, 2ManyDJs, A-Trak and Kaskade.
Life In Color @ Privilege
The world's biggest paint party meets the world's biggest club.
We Love... @ Sankeys
This season's big story: after 17 years, We Love... has moved from Sundays at Space to Wednesdays at Sankeys. Given the latter's UK-heavy clientele, it could prove a shrewd move from promoter Darren Hughes, though convincing the We Love... faithful to accept the change might not be easy. This places an extra emphasis on the lineups, which are still being kept secret. Will the new venue affect the booking policy?
Axwell / \ Ingrosso @ Ushuaia
They may have changed the name, but this'll be more of the epic same from the two Swedes.
La Familia @ Ushuaia
With dates locked in either side of Axwell / \ Ingrosso—three weeks before, four weeks after—Nic Fanciulli and Joris Voorn return to Ushuaia for a second year. The beach club's capacity is roughly 5,000, so expect them and their guests to play tech house big enough to fill the space.
You never quite know what to expect from Richie Hawtin and ENTER.
Cream @ Amnesia
Cream boasts an unrivalled legacy in Ibiza, and season number 21 will feature the usual A-list trance acts like Paul Van Dyk and Above & Beyond alongside Eric Prydz and a sprinkling of curveballs—Boys Noize, Sasha, Kölsch.
Luciano & Friends @ Destino
After stopping his work with Cocoon, Luciano is back at the helm of two parties this summer: Luciano & Friends and Vagabundos. Due to a last-minute venue cancellation (Cova Santa), the former never really got off the ground last year, so we can only assume that Destino's picturesque surroundings will fare him better. The Cadenza roster will be reserved for Sundays' Vagabundos sessions at Space, so it's anyone's guess who'll be joining Luciano at each of the seven events.
Solomun + Live @ Destino
Building on the success of his Sunday residency at Pacha, 2015 will see Solomun play six shows at Destino, accompanied each time by a live act. With David August, Âme and Brandt Brauer Frick among the guests, it's a neat idea that could work well in the sun-kissed surroundings of the Pacha-owned spot. The parties will run twice in July, August and September.
Cubbo @ Eden
San Antonio isn't known for its techno parties, so it'll be interesting to see how the likes of Ken Ishii, Marco Bailey and Uto Karem go down there.
American Borderline @ Es Paradis
A rowdy mix of sexed-up Americana and EDM hits the dance floors of Es Paradis.
F*** Me I'm Famous @ Pacha
More hands-in-the-air electro house from the French superstar.
The Redlight @ Sankeys
After experimenting with several European brands, it looks like Sankeys have decided to go all out and conquer the UK market. One of three new additions is The Redlight, a reincarnation of a party that ran at Sankeys Soap in Manchester during the early '00s. The music will be classic UK and US house and garage, with residents S-Man (Roger Sanchez) and Todd Terry joined by the likes of Matt "Jam" Lamont, MJ Cole, DJ EZ and Todd Edwards.
ENTER. @ Space
At this stage, all we know about ENTER.'s fourth season at Space is that a) it's happening, and b) it'll run for 12 weeks between July and September. Richie Hawtin is keeping things close to his chest for now, but having spent the winter touring the party all over the world, it's safe to assume that the Ibiza version will return slicker and more innovative than ever before.
WYS! @ Space
fabric's Sunday staples bring their brand of European club music to four dates on the Space Terrace—three in June and one in October.
Armin Van Buuren Is In A State Of Trance @ Ushuaia
Stadium-sized moments courtesy of the Dutch trance master.
Insane means colourful costumes, whacky party props and some of the most popular house acts on the island.
Music On @ Amnesia
After three rollicking summers, Music On is now the go-to party for anyone looking to dance until sunrise to one of techno's best DJs. Given that the event is such a runaway success, Marco Carola and his team have seen little need to change things year-on-year, and the same goes for 2015. Sure, there's a smattering of new names (Richy Ahmed, Apollonia, Paco Osuna, Victor Calderone), but really it's the likes of Joseph Capriati, Jamie Jones, Stacey Pullen and, of course, Carola himself who have the crowds flocking. And while HYTE's Amnesia arrival is a potential spanner in the works, it's unlikely the Neapolitans will be looking over their shoulders just yet.
Life And Death @ DC-10
A new addition to DC-10's roster this year, the label will be pushing its moody techno sound every week from July 31st through August 28th. As to who will be joining the Life And Death crew, that's as yet confidential information.
Insane @ Pacha
Insane was one of last year's quiet success stories. Say as much as you want about the strength of the production values, or the heavy-hitting bookings, but there's basically one reason why the party did—and will continue to do—so well: the rebirth of MK. The chart-topping American has been confirmed for 12 gigs, including three Area10 shows that he's curated. John Digweed also has 12 dates, and there are bit-part roles for Dennis Ferrer, Tensnake, Huxley, Groove Armada and Derrick Carter.
Glitterbox @ Space
Like its elder brother Defected, Glitterbox was forced to move when Booom! shut its doors. As well as the switch to the Space Terrace, the classic disco and house night also changed to Friday nights, putting themselves in competition with Music On and Insane. As much of a challenge as that'll be, there's every reason to suggest Glitterbox could be a success. Highlights include Todd Terje, Hercules And Love Affair (who will both play live), Kings Of Tomorrow, Louie Vega, DJ Spen, Greg Wilson and John Morales.
SuperMartXé @ Privilege
Chances are you've never seen Privilege at capacity, but you should. 10,000 people in a club is a sight to behold. With the way things are going at the venue, SuperMartXé is likely to be the only time it's completely full, so get down there and indulge in the vast amount of trashy entertainment on offer.
Shelter @ Sankeys Ibiza
Another new, UK-centric affair from Sankeys, this time in collaboration with Ibiza Rocks. Shelter will be the official afterparty for W.A.R!, with plenty of high-octane house names (Justin Martin, Waze & Odyssey, Shadow Child, Tiga) on hand to keep fists pumping and feet shuffling all-night long in The Basement.
Suara @ Sankeys Ibiza
Coyu's back for his second season on the island, moving from the now-defunct Booom! Ibiza to Sankeys. Starting at the end of June, Suara will run across 14 weeks upstairs in The Lab, with Lee Curtiss, Mark Knight and Sonny Fodera all dropping by.
W.A.R! @ Ibiza Rocks Hotel
If it's grime you're after in Ibiza this summer, then look no further than W.A.R! Stormzy, Skepta, Novelist, Boy Better Know and Plastician will all perform, while DJ EZ, David Rodigan, Shy FX and Hannah Wants cater to different tastes.
The Zoo Project brings together fancy dress, face paint and the deeper strands of dance music for an unforgettable clubbing experience.
Matinee @ Amnesia
This Amnesia staple is especially popular with the Spanish crowd. It's also completely off-the-wall, and worth checking out if you're in the mood for going mental.
Love The Underground Records @ Destino
This new Saturday night residency will run across 16 weeks at TOX Club, the basement space beneath the main dance floor at Destino. The club is small and sweaty, so it should suits the likes of Butch, Jon Rundell, Stefano Noferini and Valentino Kanzyani, who will all put in an appearance.
Faux Basement @ Eden
Accessible UK house from the likes of Lewis Boardman, Copyright and Tom Novy.
Hed Kandi @ Es Paradis
Feel-good house and plenty of classics at the San Antonio nightspot.
The Zoo Project @ Gala Night
No matter how seasoned a clubber you are, you'll have never been to a party like The Zoo Project. Housed in one of Ibiza's most unique venues, Gala Night, it's where you'll hear some of the sharpest underground sounds on the island. Dealing largely in British and European deep house, with the occasional US act thrown in for good measure, the party's musical ethos is lively, summery and feel-good, much like its atmosphere. Shanti Celeste, Zenker Brothers, Thomas Melchior, Oskar Offermann, Mark Farina, Hunee and Margaret Dygas are just some of the names set to appear.
Pure Pacha - Paris By Night @ Pacha
Classic Ibiza house with a French twist, headed up by Bob Sinclar. Other guests include Masters At Work, Basement Jaxx, 2ManyDJs and Armand Van Helden.
Hard Times @ Privilege (Vista Club)
Every year Privilege's Vista Club announces a string of new parties, but few return. Hoping to buck the trend this time around is Hard Times, the iconic '90s night that was partly responsible for bringing US house to the UK. They'll have many of the sound's original faces turning out across the ten weeks, including Roger Sanchez, Todd Terry, Junior Sanchez, DJ Sneak and Derrick Carter.
Magna Carta @ Sankeys Ibiza
The London outfit is back for a second summer of Saturday nights at Sankeys, pushing their contemporary British take on house and techno. East End Dubs, No Artificial Colours and Josh Butler will all play regularly.
Kehakuma/Elrow Ibiza @ Space
It might surprise some people to see Kehakuma and Elrow back together, given that the combination never really gelled last year. In a bid to boost numbers across the club, the Elrow-run KER Club will now oversee the Sunset Terrace, bringing in the likes of Ralph Lawson, Citizenn and One Records. In the Discoteca, Elrow will continue to present its kaleidoscopic, theatrical take on clubbing, with Seth Troxler, Groove Armada, Joris Voorn and Art Department all soundtracking the mayhem. As for Kehakuma in the Terrace, they're yet to release their full lineups. But with Josh Wink and Steve Bug on board for multiple shows each, it's looking like they'll be pushing a more digestible brand of club music this year.
ANTS @ Ushuaia
The colony is gearing up for a third season of festival-sized techno and house, set against a backdrop of circus-style acrobatics, pyrotechnics, space-age outfits and animatronic ANTS. It's worth visiting for the production values alone.
With Sankeys looking stronger than ever, will Steve Lawler still be the club's main draw come October?
La Troya @ Amnesia
Ibiza's long-running gay/gay-friendly fiesta moves to Sundays, and from the Terrace to the Main Room.
House Of Madness @ Amnesia
After last year's trial run, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike take over the Amnesia Terrace for 12 weeks of in-your-face EDM. Diplo will play the opening.
Rumors @ Beach House
Having tried out a handful of venues in the past two years, it seems like Guy Gerber has finally found a home in Beachhouse. The Israeli will return to the upmarket Playa d'en Bossa bar on Sunday evenings, inviting weekly, unannounced guests to join him in the booth. Last year threw up names like Cassy, Matthew Dear, Luciano and Enzo Siragusa, so expect things to get lively.
Glow Neon Paint Party @ Es Paradis
Fling fluorescent paint at your mates and dance to pop music in Ibiza's prettiest club.
Solomun +1 @ Pacha
Solomun is pushing the boat out for his third season at Pacha. Rather than book the same acts multiple times, the Diynamic chief will be joined by 19 different DJs in 20 weeks (he'll play all-night at the closing). In amongst the usual label mates (H.O.S.H., Adriatique) and previous guests (Miss Kittin, Âme, DJ Koze, Dixon) are a string of exciting new names (Mano Le Tough, Ripperton, Michael Mayer, Agoria). However, the main draw might be Sven Väth, whose September show will be his first gig at Pacha in 20 years. It's a candidate for the summer's most anticipated set.
Do Not Sleep @ Privilege (Vista Club)
After his public bust-up with Sankeys, Darius Syrossian traded David Vincent's Tribal Sessions for his own party at Vista Club, run alongside his friends Sidney Charles and Santé. Do Not Sleep will run for 10 weeks, with the three DJs playing back-to-back-to-back every Sunday. They'll be joined by various TBA guests.
VIVa Warriors @ Sankeys Ibiza
Steve Lawler and his gang know how to put on a fun, sweaty party. Season four sees a bunch of new names brought into the fold, with first-time slots for Skream, Dennis Ferrer, Jimmy Edgar and KiNK. Mathew Jonson returns with two gigs, and there are also spots for Derrick Carter, Luke Solomon and rising star Denney. Only a madman would bet against this lot.
Vagabundos @ Space
Luciano's Cadenza weekly is back after a one-year hiatus, this time on the Space Terrace. Whether the Swiss-Chilean chief is still popular enough to hold down two residencies remains to be seen, and it'll be interesting to see if We Love...'s 17-year reign casts a shadow over the night. Will people want to party at Space on Sundays with no smiley balloons?
Avicii @ Ushuaia
For the eight weeks he's on the island, the EDM prodigy will by far be Ibiza's biggest draw.
