Community Connections is a series celebrating electronic music communities across the globe.
Community Connections Paris came seven years on from our Real Scenes: Paris documentary. During the late '00s, Paris's nightlife was suffering. But change was coming. In 2012, when we released Real Scenes: Paris, the city was in an exciting period, with new venues and new parties. Today, its electronic music scene is once again envied across the globe. This made Paris a natural destination for our third edition of Community Connections.
We began on Thursday, May 16th, with a private deep-listening session from Silencio. Voiski played a special live set designed for meditation, with additional performances by Marylou and Myako.
On Friday, 17th May, we kicked things off with a takeover of LYL Radio live from the Dizonord record store. The new space, which is run by DDD Records founder Xavier Ehretsmann and independent dealer Vincent Privat, also functions as a nonprofit café, bar, music venue and community events centre. We were joined by some of Paris's most exciting names, including Low Jack, OKO DJ, PAM, Crave, and Full Circle, a project by Joakim and Alexis Le Tan.
From there, we headed over to YOYAKU for an in-store featuring Raphaël Top-Secret and shop founder Varhat, which we streamed live.
On Saturday afternoon we hosted two live editions of the RA Exchange at Hotel National des Arts et Metiers, featuring interviews with local heroes Teki Latex, Fany Corral and François X. We also hosted a promoters roundtable with different figureheads from the scene, as well as a voguing workshop from local promoters and dance crew La Mona.
On Saturday night, we visited Badaboum for a collaboration with Fusion Mes Couilles, featuring re:ni, the Fusion Mes Couilles resident DJs and a live set from Croatian Amor. The club is a local staple, and a recent overhaul by the team behind the H A I K U parties has given it a fresh lease of life, with a new booth, soundsystem, lighting rig and musical curation.
We wrapped up Community Connections Paris on Sunday afternoon with a party with Rinse France and Concrete, home of 2016's RA In Residence series, which has since been forced to close. We were joined on the Woodfloor by DJ Sundae, Crystallmess, Betty and Toma Kami. The whole thing was broadcast live on Rinse France. Hard to beat a sunny May afternoon on the River Seine at one of the best clubs in the world.
