Running into Steve Gerrard became a regular fixture for us during the Winter Music Conference. We saw him at parties, on the Miami streets and stuck (like most people) outside the Ultra Carry On with the nazi-like security guards holding the NBA fortress. His perspective is somewhat different to the likes of Carl Cox, Danny Howells and Hernan Cattaneo as he played at some great parties at some of the more obscure venues during the Miami WMC and seemed only to spend time in his hotel room to change his oh-so-soft t-shirts.
- Steve Gerrard, WMC 2005
What was your best gig at this year's WMC?
The Proton party took the gold for me this year. Reasons: great crowd, good sound system, nice venue and a fantastic line-up of DJs. Oh, and good hosts! :)
What party or venue would you liked to have played at?
I would have loved to be on the Bedrock line-up in Miami. And it would have been wicked to play somewhere like State, Space or Crobar. Maybe one day...
Which track do you remember going off the most?
That Absym tune, "Future Love", was played by everyone from Diggers to Lawler to more unknown DJs. Big tune!
What kind of music, events, DJs or live acts would you liked to have seen or seen more of at this year's WMC?
I really wanted to go to the Mos Def/De La Soul gig but it clashed with another big party. It's good to get away from the house music a little if possible.
It's also a shame I never caught more of people like Matthew Dekay, Chris Fortier and Sander this year.
I also missed the boat parties this year.
Who had you laughing this year?
Everyone. Good friends, great music, sunshine and plenty of drink always keeps the smile on my face. But Zabiela's DVDJ show was great fun too.
What was the first thing you did once you checked into your hotel...
Got out of there and got the games started. After that it was non-stop til I checked out again 6 days later.
Was the WMC for you all about... a. tan lines b. drink lines c. guestlist lines d. other?
All of the above, but more just seeing friends from all over the world and listening to great music.
Are there any rumours about yourself or others that you'd like to clear up?
James Zabiela's name is pronounced ZA-BEE-LA!!!! Pay attention at the back!
As for me, I'm still trying to convince people I'm actually a superstar DJ. Nobody's falling for it.
Also, I'm not a cross-dresser. I just like soft fabric ;)
Sum up the 2005 WMC in 5 or less words.
Music, friends, sunshine, drinks, implants.
