Many people will know the Boogie Pimps from their very big hit, 'Somebody to Love', a track that propelled them into the limelight not only in their native Germany, but all around the world. While it was a big moment for the duo of Mark J Klak & Mirko Jacob, the track uncovered the boogie pimps as who they really are, that is a duo of hard working Producers, DJ’s and also Promoters. It was a moment that took the Boogie Pimps to the next level, so we caught up with them to find out how having such a big success helped them to achieve their goals.

You guys hail from one of the homes of electronic music in Germany. Obviously a lot of great music comes from Germany but is the scene in the country as healthy as the productions that are made there?
Depends on the years you want to know about and which site you belong too. As DJs our last 3 years were great, we sold a lot of records, got a lot of gigs and have seen a lot of countries. But as a club owner (what I am as well) the last 3 years were pretty bad compared to the big period of house in Germany (1997 - 2001). Yes, it is getting less. Years ago you got a choice of 20 to 30 parties per weekend even in small areas now you will find the parties just in the bigger ones. It doesn't make it easier, if you think you got less competitors, it simply shows that the electronic scene is shrinking. Having a low after hype seems normal as long as it got stabilized.

And that is the situation we are in, everyone is going to find out how less it could be to stay alive even in the record industry. But it is not as bad as it sounds if you got good ideas, good inspiration and if you try to think not only ‘electronic’ than you will make your penny. I am sure there will be light at the end of the tunnel and we think 2006 could be a better year. DJ & Producer wise everything seemed to be alright for us.

Obviously your massive 'Somebody to Love' single helped you guys. How helpful was that track in particular in getting your name out in the spotlight?
Helpful! It was like ‘knocking on heavens door’ and somebody let us in. The track gave us - and is still giving us - the opportunity to life a live in the name of music. We can produce music or be on tour as DJs the whole day without paying attention to a ‘regular’ job. Don’t get me wrong, it is not like having holiday 7 days a week, but it is a job to die for.

It must be asked, where did the idea for the film clip to 'Somebody to Love' come from?
From Ministry of Sounds UK. They have got some crazy producers over there. I know it is a short answer but it is simple as that.

With the success at producing, has it helped you guys in any way on the DJ'ing side of things in terms of knowing the tracks as well as getting more gigs? Do you prefer Producing or DJ'ing?
Being a DJ in front of a crowed that wants to be kicked, is something totally different. The success of our productions just gives us the gigs but you could not play your own tracks for 2,3 or 4 hours in a loop. You have to know your records, you have to find the rights mixture from old and new, known and unknown. It is not enough just to be a good Producer or a good DJ. The Secret is that little word ‘and’. You have to be both!

Your latest single, 'The Music In Me¹ has been well received it appears with the likes of Pete Tong putting it at #1 in his Buzz chart. Are you guys happy with the reaction it has received, especially from fans in the clubs?
Absolutely. At #1 at Pete’s Buzz Chart is really an honour and hopefully shows the power of the track. I am so proud that we got this outstanding response to the new single and I can’t stand the time until the single steps of a release are done. It is simply good feeling if people love what we do.

What other works have you got in store for the near future, either original productions or remixes?
Right know we are working on a remix for well known German band called ‘Rosenstolz’ it is our 2nd remix for them. After we finished the Russia and Australia Tour we will go back to the studio to finish the work on a couple of new productions. Be surprised!

You are playing in Sydney on NYE. Have you been there before and how excited are you guys for that gig in particular? Will you have time to check out the city as tourists?
Yes I have been to Sydney before, it is our 3rd time down under. I am really excited to play Nye in Sydney. It is my first time out of Germany on Nye and my first time that I will have summer in the December. Crazy imagination! This time I will definitely check the Sydney Tower the last two times it was too foggy. But the rest of my time down there is owned by the promoters.

Apart from recovering from NYE, what else have you guys got planned for 2006?
Making Music! Playing good sets! And come back to Australia again because we love to be there!
