One only needs to look at former Motley Crue drummer, Tommy Lee to see that the role of the DJ is still very much a coveted position in non-dance music circles. The latest to join Lee et al. behind the decks is Warren Fischer, one half of Electroclash outfit Fischerspooner.

Fischer -- along with partner Casey Spooner -- burst into the spotlight in 2002 with the Fischerspooner hit "Emerge" (signed to DJ Hell's International Deejay Gigolo Records and remixed by the likes of Junkie XL, The Hacker and Dave Clarke) and their debut album, the cheekily titled and somewhat self-prophetic "#1". The pair followed up "#1" with last year's "Odyssey", which spawned the singles "Just Let Go" and "Never Win".

Lauded as much (some might say even more so) for their glam make-up and pop theatrics as for their part in the rise of the Electroclash movement, the duo further ventured into club territory last summer, holding down a residency at Privilege's Manumission night in Ibiza.

Next weekend Warren Fischer will be joined by Jon Kane -- occasional DJ partner and co-director of many of Fischerspooner's video clips -- as the pair introduce their brand of electro house and tech-house (in addition to some exclusive visuals) at the launch of Turnmills' new monthly night Together.

RA checked in with Warren Fischer to find out how he's getting it together - not with Casey Spooner but with Jon Kane - as a DJ.

RA: First off, a few questions about Fischerspooner. If the music you listen to, defines who you are, define who you think listens to Fischerspooner.

WF: I really don't know. I like music for my own reasons having to do with uniqueness, immediacy, and creativity, and I believe it is a personal relationship people have, so I am sure that I can't even begin to imagine how people come to our music, and that it's crazy to try.

RA: Some of Fischerspooner's songs like "Never Win" are so fun and catchy it's amazing they're not played every 30 minutes on the radio. Are you aware of what's played on the radio in the USA? What's your take on what the masses bop their heads to these days?

WF: First of all..Thanks! As far as the radio.....I don't really listen to the radio much, so I am the wrong person to ask. I think most people just steal music that they hear about, or stumble on.

RA: Fischerspooner was credited with the rise of the Electroclash movement along with people like Larry Tee. Is Electroclash dead? How do you feel about that word in 2006?

WF: I am happy to be considered involved with a unique musical genre. I think that in a way it's dead because the initial wave is moving on (like Adult, Felix, Peaches, Crossover,etc..), but it's still working its way to masses, through the new Madonna record and other artists like M.I.A.

RA: Describe your first album "#1" and "Odyssey" each in two or three words. Do you think it's it fair to call either of those releases concept albums?

WF: "#1" is a plastic indie pop album. "Odyssey" is a neo classic rock album.

All of our work is based on core ideas that we try to execute thematically, but we are not trying to make a concept album. There is no narrative or scene, just a theme.

RA: Right from the very first Fischerspooner release "Emerge", your tracks found their way into the playlists of DJs like Sasha or DJ Hell, which in turn saw your name become big in clubland. Last summer you held down a residency at Privilege's Manumission night in Ibiza. How did that go? Any moments? Do you have any plans to repeat it again this summer?

WF: Ibiza is an acquired taste, which we enjoyed, but I think it works in moderation.

RA: Did the DJ-led scene of Ibiza inspire you to try your hand at DJing? What was the impetus for taking up DJing with Jon Kane?And why with Jon and not Casey?

WF: Jon and I had DJ'd around a little bit before, and we have fun doing it. One thing I love is how simple it is to do. Our show is a lot of work, so it's nice to do something quick and fun.

RA: Musically, what can punters at the upcoming "Together" night at Turnmills in London expect to hear from you and Jon Kane?

WF: We play electro house and tech house mostly, with some rock that fits.

RA: Is this the same Jon Kane who has directed several of your Fischerspooner video clips? If so, will there be any sequences from any of those used as background visuals on the night?

WF: Yes, Jon and I have directed (sometimes with Karen Fischer) all the music videos for FS, and we plan on bringing some cool unseen material to the show.

RA: Are there any plans to incorporate the pop theatrics, visual art and fashion of your live Fischerspooner performances into your DJing?

WF: No, I like to make it just about the music, nice and pure.

RA: The lip-synching of Fischerspooner and other pop acts often come under fire since they challenge the notion of what is a live performance. In terms of DJing, how would you feel about a DJ playing out a pre-recorded mix and pretending to mix the
tracks?

WF: You know I LOVE THAT!!!!

RA: Your track "Just Let Go" was remixed by Stuart Price (as Thin White Duke), and M.A.N.D.Y, two in-form and very much in-demand dance music producers. Was this the doing of your record label or was this a personal choice by yourself or Casey? To what extent do you keep an eye on who's hot in the electronic music scene?

WF: We picked Stuart, and DJ Hell picked Mandy. They are both great! I know more now that I am playing out more, that's another thing I love about it.

RA: What do you think Casey would play if he were DJing?

WF: Air Supply into Mylo

RA: We all change as humans as we experience life. Hence an artist never repeats their work exactly since the artist continually encounters new meaningful experiences. What then lies ahead for Fischerspooner and what's in store for Warren Fischer individually?

WF: Well, we just did a crazy FS show in Florence that was in an old opera house laid out like the Globe Theater with 5 stories of box seats. We also incorporated a nature set, and some new devices that was really satisfying. So we are working on doing more shows in opera houses and we are in talks with a Bollywood studio to do an FS Movie.

As far as me, I will be concentrating on the next record, I also have an offer to do a film score with a great director and Jon and I are developing feature movie ideas and hope to start shooting soon.

RA: Finally, name one track you will definitely play at Together at Turnmills when you DJ there on January 28th.

WF: Sure....Voidd "Better Girl" (Don Diablo Remix) and Chef "Being Chef"
