  • Newcastle-based promotors Shindig have announced that they are to finish their weekly residency at Digital next month. The Shindig crew have been throwing parties in the city since 1991, and have become one of the biggest nights for electronic music in the North East of England. Shindig take much pride in the fact that their night has run regularly over the past decade and a half, but that's all set to stop next month with their final weekly slot on Saturday 18th July. Dutch electro-house maestro Laidback Luke will take over the main room with one of his lively dance floor-focused sets, with the Shindig residents joining him to give the 1400 capacity club a fitting farewell. Speaking on the Shindig blog, resident and promoter Neil Bainbridge explains their reasons behind the change, commenting that the "ever-changing musical and financial climate demands evolution, and with our weekly restraints removed we can now develop and explore new spaces." It isn't the end of Shindig at Digital, however, with Bainbridge promising "large scale events on alternate nights" at the club, including a special event on the August Bank Holiday weekend.
