  • Brendon Moeller will launch his own label, Steadfast, later this year. The tireless producer who regularly records these days under his own name, Beat Pharmacy and Echologist, is setting up the imprint as a vehicle largely for his own productions. The first release, in fact, will be one under his own name. Entitled phased & confused, it is due to be released in October. Meanwhile, scene vet Tedd Patterson will head up the second 12-inch, with Moeller contributing a remix to the package. Even though Moeller's brief press release about the new label ends thusly, "whether you're on a dance floor, in a car, jogging, dining or wherever Steadfast Records will be heard, the response Brendon hopes to inspire with every release is a simple, 'FUCK YEAH!!'," we decided to catch up with via e-mail to tease a bit of extra information out of him.
Why now for Steadfast? The timing could not be more perfect. [Being] already in bed with so many labels, and contemplating jumping in with even more, a couple weeks ago I stepped back and thought to myself, "Wait a minute, this no longer makes sense." I e-mailed two distributors I thought I might have a shot working with, and a day later heard back from an old friend at Kompakt. After explaining to him where I was and what my vision for the label is, he asked for a couple days to meet with his colleagues and make a decision. A phone call, a couple e-mails and a few days later, I signed a contract to have them distribute the vinyl, CDs and digital files worldwide for my label! What makes this formation of this label even more exciting for me is that it coincides with the birth of my son, Gabriel, who was born on July 3rd. Why did you choose the name Steadfast for the label? I decided on Steadfast as a name cause for me the word represents my approach to making music and living life. Unrelenting, steady, unyielding... You are heavily involved with Francois K's Wave Music imprint. Does that work stop now that you're setting up Steadfast? Francois and I have yet to sit down and discuss all this. :) I have a feeling he and I will always be working together in some or other capacity, at least I hope so. Can we expect to see you continuing to release on other labels as well? Yes, but definitely not as much. I will stick mostly to remix work for other labels.
