- The English musician and producer will follow up last year's Marking Time with another full-length on Type Records.
Richard Skelton will return to the celebrated Type imprint for his second album under his own name.
Most of Skelton's previous work was released on his own Sustain-Release label, which began life as a dedication to his deceased wife, Louise. Richard has created four different pseudonyms for his material (Heidika, Carousell, A Broken Consort and RiftMusic), all of which skate the line between modern classical and instrumental folk, with each release existing as a limited edition package that will contain customised or unique artwork courtesy of Louise. There may not be any leaves or special items included in his records for Type, but the label has proved its ability to get music out to a wider audience, with 2008's Marking Time becoming quite a favourite with avant-garde and ambient critics come last year's end-of-year polls.
Landings sees Skelton continue from where he left off, again using piano, violin and bowed guitar to create delicate but emotionally powerful pieces, with a distinctly melancholic flavour. Skelton even adds a concertina to his repertoire on "Green Withins Brook," capitalising on his rural landscape by recording the instrument by the side of a stream during one winter morning. Avid Skelton fans will most probably want to pick up the double-vinyl edition, as it includes an extra bonus CD with an exclusive twenty-minute long Riftmusic piece.
