Darshan Jesrani to tour Australia

You last visited Australia in 2008 for a series of festival shows. How were they? They were just OK, but we were still happy to have been asked to play. We felt a little bit out of place among all the live bands, big stage setting and rock-oriented sound, but the whole thing was organized wonderfully and there were other good times to be had. Did you get a chance to check out any sights? We had some nice walks around Sydney: The bay, the Opera House, and other different parts of town in general. It's a lovely city. The other stops on the tour we didn’t get to explore very much because of the pace of the festival and the consecutive gigs. You guys were planning to release another Metro Area LP in 2010? How's it going? Yep, we still are. It’s going well, thanks. We have a bunch of tracks in progress, and we're trying to settle some vocals and lyrics. We're very excited about the material. You also mentioned in an interview last year that Metro Area was gradually being pushed into the songwriting spectrum. Was this more of a natural progression, or a conscious decision? It was natural progression in the sense that even some of our instrumentals sound like they call for vocals. Plus, a lot of the stuff that we’re influenced by are songs that are then stretched out into club versions. There’s a lot of room for experimentation in songwriting and, I think, lots to keep us busy. What is it like touring and DJing without Morgan? Do you do it often? How does it affect your sets? I do it all the time. I started touring as a DJ without Morgan for the first two or three years of full-time gigging, so I’ve developed my own sets and style of playing that complements what we do together. Morgan not being there affects my sets by requiring that I play every record in the set instead of every three or so. Finally, how have your DJ sets been sounding lately? As eclectic as ever? They’ve been sounding absolutely horrendous! Don’t come out!
