  • Wolfgang Voigt has once again revived Profan, the experimental label he ran from 1993 to 2000, with one extra release in 2008. Throughout the '90s, Profan released records by the likes of Jürgen Paape and Thomas Brinkmann, as well as some of Voigt's own projects, including an EP by Gas. Profan briefly reappeared in 2008 with Freiland Klaviermusik, a heavily experimental EP that consisted solely of dissonant piano melodies. Profan's next release will be an EP by SOG, one of Voigt's many pseudonyms. Entitled Abweichung, the record comprises four avant-garde techno tracks, vaguely in the style of Voigt's Studio 1 alias. The record's aesthetic is rigid and prodding, with soothing splashes of classical music popping in at unexpected moments. The EP is named after a painting by Voigt, which also serves as the record's cover art. Another release on Profan is due later this year, along with an art book and double CD called Werkschau. Tracklist A1. Abweichung 1 A2. Abweichung 2 A3. Abweuching 3 B1. Abweichung 4 Profan will release SOG's Abweichung on February 22nd, 2010.
