  • Novation have announced the latest model in their Nova range, the UltraNova. Presented as a synth for "everyone," the UltraNova seems to have been specifically designed to appeal to a wide range of music makers and performers thanks to a simple layout and easy to grasp feature set. Its three oscillator architecture combines a mixture of wavetables and traditional subtractive synthesis, along with up to 18 voices and 36 wavetables. Novation seem to be most proud of their new touch-sensitive rotary controllers, though, which are fully assignable. Across the eight controllers and one large knob users are able to trigger things such LFOs, filters and envelopes by simply touching the encoders. The UltraNova's 37-note keyboard, meanwhile, features aftertouch and a 12-band vocoder with gooseneck mic. There will also be the option of software control: The UltraNova comes bundled with a plug-in editor that includes a patch library, enabling users to organize and share their efforts. See below for a link to the full feature set and demonstrative video (try and ignore the robot voice). Novation will release the UltraNova at the end of Q4 2010 with a recommended retail price of £587 /$849/€679
