  • Animal Collective are curating next year's edition of All Tomorrow's Parties, and the acts they've chosen so far point to a more electronic bill for the UK festival. Since the late '90s, ATP has posed an alternative to the likes of Glastonbury or Bestival by offering a high-brow lineup in a more comfortable setting (Butlin's Resort, the same venue as Bloc). Part of the festival's trademark is to choose a different celebrity curator each year—often a musician or band, but sometimes a filmmaker or visual artist (Matt Groening of The Simpsons curated last year's event). This means each year is different from the one before it, as the style of programming changes with each curator. With Animal Collective at the helm, ATP 2011 will have an unusual amount of electronic, psychedelic and experimental music. That said, the usual raft of indie acts has been included as well: Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, Broadcast and post-punk greats The Meat Puppets and The Frogs, each of whom will be playing one of their classic albums in its entirety. Less common to ATP are artists like Omar-S, Vladislav Delay, Zomby and Lee 'Scratch' Perry. American acts Black Dice and Gang Gang Dance will cover the more brain-melting end of the spectrum. More acts are due to be announced in the months ahead.
