  • Thrill Jockey Records will release a new long-player from Zomes, AKA Asa Osborne, next month. With a career spanning 30 years, Osborne is best known for his work with '90s artrock band Lungfish, who experimented heavily with drone and repetition. Under his solo alias, Zomes, Osborne's work is a kind of distilled version of this. Recorded at home and solely on cassette, Earth Grid channels his earlier years, using distorted keyboards and tape-looped drum beats to create droning, meditative soundscapes. As the usage of cassette would indicate, the album was recorded using intentionally primitive methods. Similarly, often dabbling in the visual arts himself, Osborne created a cover which reflects the music itself. Like his previous visual work, it uses mundane objects to achieve its end. In this case, simple medical tape on black paper, placed carefully and with minute variation. Tracklist 01. Openings 02. Pilgrim Traveler 03. Melody, the Prism 04. Bloodlines 05. Spiraling 06.
