  • Pantha Du Prince will be among the many headlining acts at this year's Øyafestival in Oslo. The bell-loving techno producer is joined by Kanye West, Pulp, Aphex Twin, Fleet Foxes, Lykke Li and many others in August in the Norwegian capital. Prince, however, will be one of the few premiering a special new project for the occasion. He's working in collaboration with Norwegian composer Lars Petter Hagen, to present something called The Bell Laboratory. RA readers are no doubt familiar with Pantha Du Prince's work. Hagen, meanwhile, has been involved in many aspects of Norwegian contemporary music. Not only has he performed at several local festivals, he's also artistically directed Ultima Festival, Happy Days and Nordic Music Days. With The Bell Laboratory, the duo are set to expand Pantha Du Prince's signature use of bells and melodic percussion with a composition centered around 64 large Carillon bells, and backed by four of Norway's esteemed percussionists, including Jaga Jazzist's Martin Horntveth. Last year at the festival, Brandt Brauer Frick collaborated with classical percussionists Pinquins at the Museum of Contemporary Art, in which they performed in front of a seated audience along with three ballerinas. The Bell Laboratory, however, is set to go down outside at the festival's tent stage in Medieval Park.
