Kid Koala will release Space Cadet, an accompaniment to his graphic novel of the same name on Ninja Tune in September.
Eight years on from the release of his debut graphic novel Nufonia Must Fall, the Montreal-based artist has produced an album to soundtrack his 132-page etchboard composition. The LP builds upon Koala's three previous solo efforts on the same label—Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Some of My Best Friends Are DJs and Your Mom's Favorite DJ—but this time strings, horns and marimba accompany his trademark turntables. Space Cadet includes fifteen songs which can stand alone in their own right, as well as part of the soundtrack narrative which charts the fate of an elusive space cadet and her guardian. The relationship between the pair is reportedly the vehicle for Koala to explore the connection between technology, isolation and the solace of the family unit.
