  • American deep house artist John Roberts will play his first Melbourne set in December, where he'll be sharing the second Smalltown bill with Octave One and Fritz Kalkbrenner. The Ohio-born Roberts emerged in the late '00s with a small series of melancholic sample-based productions on Dial and Laid, after which he dropped his well-received debut album Glass Eights. His DJ sets, however, rarely reflect the typically contemplative production style he's become known for, instead remaining heavily grounded in classic New York house and disco. Detroit techno veterans, Octave One, on the other hand, will be landing in Melbourne with a live set, while Fritz Kalkbrenner, widely known for his work alongside brother Paul on the Berlin Calling soundtrack, will be supplying his chord-heavy and melodic house. It's all set to take place at Billboard The Venue on December 16th, kicking off at 10:00 PM.
