- Subtitled Themes for an Imaginary Film, the two-hour release has been three years in the making.
Italians Do It Better artist Johnny Jewel has released a lengthy album called Symmetry - Themes for an Imaginary Film.
The two-hour, 32-track opus is Jewel's first solo album in 15 years, after This Skin Is Rust, which he produced under the alias Twenty Six. Since then he's become a staple of Italians Do It Better and its related labels, playing in the groups Glass Candy, Desire and Chromatics and producing for artists like Farah (more recently, he produced the soundtrack for the film Drive). According to a press release, Jewel started working on Symmetry back in 2008 and finished it in May of this year. The final product features guest appearances from many of his past collaborators, including Nat Walker from Desire (on drums and synthesizer) and Adam Miller and Ruth Radelet from Chromatics (on guitar and vocals respectively). In terms of style, the album is very much in keeping with Italians Do It Better's trademark sound: dark and cinematic with a bit of campy flair.
Symmetry is currently available on iTunes and will come out as a double-CD and triple-vinyl pack sometime in 2012. You can stream the whole thing now right here.
