- The Vancouver producer will release his second album on Hybridity this July.
Calamalka will drop his first full-length in eight years, All The Way Up, on July 24th.
Vancouver's Michael Campitelli has been active for a decade now, having released a self-titled EP in 2002 and an album of experimental dub called Shredders Dub on LA's Plug Research in 2004. His releases since then have been few and far between, until earlier this year when he inaugurated the new Vancouver label 10Pin with his Gooey EP, which RA remarked showed an "effortless knack for space you won't find in so many other instrumental hip-hop producers."
This new album comes on Hybridity, the Vancouver label that also launched this year as a multimedia project encouraging collaboration and cross-platform experimentation. It will be the label's first foray into the album format after Humans' Traps EP. All The Way Up consists entirely of previously unreleased tracks, all recorded between 2010-2012 at Campitelli's home studio. The Calamalka sound on display here is similar to the funky, hip-hop-modelled Gooey.
