The festival, which helps collect school supplies for inner city children, has some of Detroit's finest on the bill.
The seventh annual SCP/UR Backpack Music Festival will take place in Detroit's New Center Park on August 4th and 5th.
The festival is presented by the Underground Resistance techno collective and Serendipity, Collage and Potpourri (SCP), a Michigan nonprofit organization committed to providing backpacks and school supplies to students in need. Attendees who bring a backpack to donate will all get discounted admission.
The weekend's music and arts program will feature an all-star cast of local talent. Derrick May, Juan Atkins, Eddie Fowlkes and Rick Wilhite are all confirmed, and Underground Resistance itself will be represented by John Collins, DJ Skurge, Galaxy 2 Galaxy and Timeline. An art exhibit will show works from Jeff Mills, Mad Mike and others, and a limited-edition compilation CD, whose artwork will be chosen from a student competition, will be available as well.
