  • Portland-based artist Paul Dickow, AKA Strategy, will release a self-titled album in September on a new label called Peak Oil. As Todd L. Burns outlined in a Machine Love feature on him earlier this year, Dickow is a technology-obsessed artist with a particularly organic approach to production (he claims to not know how to use Ableton's looping function). In the past he's appeared on labels like Kranky, Orac and most recently 100% Silk. His upcoming self-titled LP shows him further developing his eclectic style, pulling together elements of krautrock, indie, IDM-style electronics and more. The album will be available as a vinyl LP limited to 300 copies. Peak Oil describes itself as a label "run by a number of Brians...based in Los Angeles." One of those Brians is Brian Foote, who used to play with Dickow in the band Fontanelle. It will launch on September 25th with Strategy plus another record: Spontaneous Generation, an EP by the LA artist Personable. Though much more purely electronic, Spontaneous Generation has the same lo-fi, DIY feel as Strategy, and will also be limited to 300 copies. Both come packaged in silk-screened "lenticular covers." Tracklist A1 Sugar Drop A2 Objects of Desire A3 Another Rain A4 Baby Fever B1 Friends and Machines B2 Saturn's Day B3 Dilemmas Peak Oil will release Strategy and Spontaneous Generation on September 25th, 2012.
