  • This December, Soundway Records will release 24 Hours in a Disco, a collection of songs by Ghanaian disco luminary Kiki Gyan. From the mid-'70s through to the early '80s, Kiki Gyan had enormous potential: before turning 21, he'd been compared to Stevie Wonder, ranked as one of the best keyboardists in the world and had become a hot commodity as a session-player at recording studios in London. After playing the influential world music group Osibisa, he started making his own disco records and at one point seemed poised for international fame. This all unwound when he fell victim to addiction in the '80s, eventually dying of his habits in 2005 at the age of 47 in 2005. 24 Hours in a Disco collects some of the disco records Gyan recorded between 1978 and 1982. It will be released as a CD and double-LP, with liner notes by the producer Uchenna Ikonne. You can hear the opening track, "Disco Dancer," on the label's SoundCloud page. Tracklist 01.
