  • A label offshoot of Tokyo event series Mariana, called Mariana Wax, is set to launch this month. The Mariana party, which began back in 2009, is the brainchild of Dave Twomey, a globetrotting DJ and producer with a soft spot for deep and dubby techno. (The name refers to the Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the world's oceans.) Mariana Wax will offer another way to showcase that sound, with tracks set to come from Twomey himself, producing as Tr nch, and many of Mariana's previous guests. Mariana Wax 000 begins with a Tr nch ambient piece which, according to a press sheet, features "the voice of Captain Jacques Picard describing the first descent in 1960 to ... the bottom of the Mariana Trench." Also on hand with more rhythmic material are US producer Mike Parker (his contribution, "Below Zero," was previously put on a very limited test-pressing via his own label Geophone) and Tokyo-based artist and DRONE resident Wata Igarashi. Fans in Tokyo can celebrate the launch of the new label—as well as Mariana's fourth anniversary—with Twomey, Igarashi and party favorite Peter Van Hoesen, among others, at eleven this Saturday night, before it closes for renovations. Tickets are available here on RA. Mariana fans around the world will also be able to join in the fun with today's Dommune live stream, featuring Van Hoesen and Igarashi. The three-hour session will start at 9 PM JST, 1 PM GMT. Tracklist A1 Tr nch - Challenger Deep A2 Mike Parker - Below Zero B Wata Igarashi - Valve Mariana Wax will release Mariana Wax 000 on May 20th, 2013.
