  • Native Instruments has introduced Kinetic Metal. The Berlin-based software maker's latest creation is a source for strangely original metallic sounds. At the heart of the instrument are samples of metal objects—"cauldrons, broken clocks, kettles and swords" are the examples NI offers—you wouldn't normally think of as musical source material. The samples were then worked into a multitude of patches. You then tweak the patches using two wheels: one called the Forge, which tweaks the combination of the samples going into the sounds, and one for effects. (The latter can be further tweaked using eight additional effects controls.) It's certainly an unconventional tool, but the video below gives a better idea of the sound, the GUI and the sampling process.
Kinetic Metal is now available from Native Instruments for 99 Euro.
