Mtendere Mandowa's lauded debut LP, Ardour, came out back in 2010 and was described by RA's Andrew Ryce as "one of the most beautiful albums of the year, alternating between trembling lullabies and softly thumping hip-hop daydreams." A year later he released Collections 01, which he referred to as a collection of sketches rather than an album proper. E S T A R A sees Mandowa return to the traditional LP format, with a 12-track opus that continues to mine his shoegaze-laced take on hip-hop, featuring collaborations with Jonti, Populous, Lars Horntveth and Warp regular Prefuse 73. One of the record's cuts, "View Point," is streaming now over at Pitchfork.
