  • The City of Chicago will host a tribute event for Frankie Knuckles next Tuesday. Knuckles passed away in late March age 59. Since then family, friends and fans around the world have paused to mourn and reflect on his life and legacy; a letter from President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama was just one example of how much the "godfather of house" was loved and how much he'll be missed. For its part, Chicago (specifically, the city's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events) has planned a tribute and dance party downtown on Millennium Park's Central Promenade, near Cloud Gate (AKA The Bean). A group of veteran local DJs—some of Knuckles' longtime friends and affiliates—will be on hand. Robert Williams and Alan King will share some words to begin the event, and sets on the decks will come from Mike Winston, Greg Gray, Craig Loftis and Elbert Phillips. The event will run from 6 PM to 9 PM, and admission is free. Last month we ran our own piece in remembrance of Knuckles, which had Williams and Loftis, among others, contributing to the story. You can give it a read here.
