  • Lawrence English will release Wilderness Of Mirrors on July 15th. The Australian composer and producer has a large body of work stretching back through the past decade, often conceptual and experimental-leaning in nature. His latest album is inspired by T.S. Eliot's "Gerontion," a poem that coined the phrase "Wilderness Of Mirrors"—which itself became a widely used term during the Cold War to describe intentionally misleading behaviour from opposing intelligence agencies. English, inspired by the confusion and disappointment of the modern world, has tied that theme into the record by burying "a singularity" in each track, "slowly reflected back upon itself in a flood of compositional feedback." He also developed an interest in high volumes and intense frequencies for the LP after seeing bands like Earth, My Bloody Valentine and Swans live over the two years he spent making Wilderness. Speaking of the world's increasingly discouraging political climate, English explains: "This record is me yelling into what seems to be an ever-growing black abyss. I wonder if my voice will reflect off something?" Check out an unnerving trailer for the album below.
