  • Chicago nonprofit Lampo has booked Rene Hell, real name Jeff Witscher, for a performance on October 11th to start its four-part fall and winter schedule of free experimental music events. Though Witscher might be best known these days as Rene Hell, this week sees the release of an album from the Los Angeles-based artist's Marble Sky alias. For Chicago, however, there's something else in the works: the premiere of a project called Bifurcating A Resounding No! The event, like others that Lampo has been involved in (including one with Chris Madak, AKA Bee Mask), will be hosted in collaboration with the Graham Foundation, at the organization's Madlener House. The next two are also jointly presented by the two groups. Robert A.A. Lowe is lined up for "a new modular synthesizer improvisation with voice, in quad sound" on Saturday, November 8th. He's also known through other names and projects like Lichens, and has worked with the doom metal group OM. Like Witscher, he's appeared on Type, and produced for other like-minded labels like Kranky and Thrill Jockey. Then on November 22nd, the duo Lucky Dragons will unveil their own new performance, RSVP Partita. Last on the schedule for Lampo (for now) is a collaborative event with the University of Chicago's Smart Museum of Art. It'll take place on December 13th at the Logan Center for the Arts on the South Side campus, and feature Tristan Perich's new composition Noise Patterns.
