  • New Jersey house jock Nicuri has started a new label called Sound Theories. Nicuri, real name Ruben Candelario, first surfaced with tracks for DJ Qu's Strength Music Recordings, as part of the label's Exchange Place series. Recently he's stepped up with a couple solo records, including a three-tracker on Yygrec put out back in August. His next move is a new label, and its first record is the Spectrum EP, which dropped last week. It's made of two of his own tracks and one from Joey Anderson, who's a logical pick for an appearance: both artists are from New Jersey and part of Qu's label crew (Nicuri's debut track "Ridindatneedle" came on the same 2008 Strength Music release that featured Anderson's much-loved cut "Thee Analysis"), and Nicuri contributed a track to Anderson's Inimeg label earlier in the year. To celebrate the start of Sound Theories, Nicuri and Anderson will both hit the new Brooklyn venue Good Room for a launch party on Friday, November 28th. It'll be thrown jointly with Remedy and The Shuffle Co-Op, a crew from Oakland that hosted Nicuri in the Bay Area a few months ago. The night will also feature a live set from Dusk Notes label heads Cory James and Soramimi, while Remedy residents Maroje T, Jen Orlando and Amourette take over the club's Bad Room. A full-length video has been made for Nicuri's track "Behind Many Faces"—you can watch it on Vimeo. Tickets to the launch party in Brooklyn are available here on RA.
