  • Roland have a non-AIRA announcement at NAMM this weekend that should still be of interest to electronic producers. It's the JD-Xi synthesizer, and if you follow music tech, it should look familiar—photos of the compact synth leaked a few weeks back. The official announcement confirms that it's both analog and digital, employing the former for (monophonic) bass and leads and PCM for pads, strings and brass, among others. (The digital sections boast 128-voice polyphony.) For play, it boasts 37 mini-keys, as well as a four-track pattern sequencer and a gooseneck mic for the vocoder and autopitch. There are also onboard effects, USB and MIDI I/O, and the ability to tap into Roland's online Axial sound library. To boot, it comes standard with a gig back. The company has brought in Dorian Concept to show off its sound and functionality, which you can check out in the video below.
The JD-Xi is coming soon from Roland.
