  • RM is Pioneer's new studio monitor line. The most notable feature of the series is its coaxial driver design, where the tweeter sits at the center of the woofer. The speaker thus radiates sound from a single point. The aramid-fiber woofers are built to reduce air friction, and the 1.5-inch tweeter has been designed to deliver extremely high frequencies, which Pioneer says give these active monitors a crisp, precise sound. The speaker is housed in a rigid aluminum casing that both looks nice and reduces resonances. There's an acoustic tube inside the cabinet, built with Pioneer's proprietary AFAST technology, that's meant to absorb standing waves. For further tweaking, there are three bands of EQ around back of the speaker. The series comes in two sizes: the RM-05, with a 5-inch woofer, and the RM-07, with a 6.5-inch woofer. The video below gives the full rundown on the feature set.
Pioneer will release the RM-05 and RM-07 in May 2015 for a suggested retail price of €549 and €729.
