  • Mark Fell and Gábor Lázár will release The Neurobiology of Moral Decision Making via The Death Of Rave on May 11th. The tenth release on the adventurous label pairs the Yorkshire-based SND veteran Fell with the relative newcomer Lazar, who emerged with the I.L.S. album for Lorenzo Senni's Presto!? as well as EP16 for The Death Of Rave last year. Lazar, who currently holds a residency at the Stockholm EMS facility where Fell sits as a guest composer, worked with Fell to create a record the Boomkat-affiliated imprint says "explores a radical recalibration of conventional meter and tone in modern electronic music, probing specific aspects of Max/MSP software with the potential to acutely challenge our perception of time and space." The hyperactive drum programming present makes The Neurobiology's ten tracks feel akin to "OG hardcore and jungle or Chicago footwork." In keeping with most Fell projects, the abstraction is politicized, with the listener encouraged to "think of scattered bodies attempting to synch with new, accelerated and “irregular” rhythms—offering a freedom of expression and interpretation that’s typically scarce in most grid-locked musics." Autechre, who struck out against repressive UK laws sanctioning "succession of repetitive beats," is also name-dropped in The Neurobiology's press sheet. The tenth release on The Death Of Rave follows far-out contributions from Mark Leckey, Merzbow, and recently, The Automatics Group. Tracklist 01. Untitled 1 02. Untitled 2 03. Untitled 3 04.
