  • Today the best skaters in the world practiced for the biggest skateboard competition ever held in Australia –Globe World Cup Skateboarding, presented by Swatch. Tomorrow more than 100 male and female skaters from 15 countries will take to the street course and vert ramp to bid for their share in the $120,000 prize purse. Tomorrow’s line up of skate competition and entertainment includes the final of the Australian Skateboarding Titles; the opening events of the international Globe World Cup Skateboarding street and vert competition; and day one of the brand new AAA-Pass music festival. Australian Skateboarding Titles – Saturday, 9 – 11am Tomorrow’s day of competition begins with the Final of the Australian Skateboarding Titles, Australia’s national skateboard series. The AST has been running around Australia and New Zealand since November, with qualifying events touching down in six states and territories and Auckland. Top skaters from each event, 27 in total, scored a place in tomorrow’s final. Young-blood competitors as young as 11 will go up against experienced skaters twice their age. For some, this will be their first time competing in a major event, let alone in front of a crowd of 10,000 skate fans. A good performance in the AST Final will mean the chance to enter the qualifying rounds for Globe World Cup Skateboarding and compete alongside their professional skateboarding heroes. Globe World Cup Skateboarding – Street & Vert, from 11am Since last year’s first event, Globe World Cup Skateboarding has become one of the premier events on the international World Cup Skateboarding calendar and has attracted a huge line up of the world’s top professional street and vert skaters. Tomorrow more than 100 will take to the massive street course and vert ramp in the opening events of Globe World Cup Skateboarding. AAA-Pass Festival – All Day New to Globe World Cup this year is the AAA-Pass Festival, celebrating the music and culture of skateboarding in Australia. The rock stage will see ten of Australia’s most popular indie, rock, punk and ska bands perform including Bodyjar, Area 7, Bugdust and For Amusement Only. The hip hop stage will heave to the tunes of some of Melbourne’s top DJs, battling and playing solo with a live percussionist. The AAA-Pass Festival also boasts such diversions as the athlete signing stage; Cole Clarke guitar-making workshop; CKY Skate Film Cinema; PS2 Gamers Zone and the Swatch Fly On the Wall stunt.
