  • Optimo Trax has announced their next 12-inch, out in January, featuring an unreleased track from the late British artist Muslimgauze. Label owner JD Twitch's relationship with Bryn Jones goes all the way back to 1996 when he released a Muslimgauze EP on Pi Recordings (and later arranged for Jones's first Scottish live performance, which press notes say was attended by six people). Jones reportedly sent over CD-Rs full of unreleased material to Twitch, one of which contained "Untitled 1985," a proto-hardcore track apparently made half a decade before the genre existed. "It could be said Jones pre-empted UK hardcore around five years before anyone else," the label says. "This is made all the more remarkable by the fact that he never used samplers but rather worked extensively with tape loops." "Untitled 1985" is presented in two versions. One, the original, has been slightly tweaked by Twitch to make it more suitable for club play, while Victor Shan and Gerd Janson team up for a "Rave Mix." (They also have a "Morning Mix" as a digital-only bonus track.) The other side of the EP is taken up Italian duo Underspreche, one of whose tracks samples field recordings from the Mukunguni tribe in Kenya (taken from an Honest Jon's release). You can listen to clips of the whole thing below.
