Awesome Tapes From Africa plans two Brooklyn gigs

- Brian Shimkovitz will bring his cassette collection to the Big Apple next week.
- Awesome Tapes From Africa will DJ at Output and the BAMcafé on November 19th and 20th. LA resident Brian Shimkovitz looks after the Awesome Tapes From Africa blog and label, which exposes a range of obscure music from across the continent. He also DJs under the same name, and has hauled his crate of cassette tapes to gigs across Australia, Europe and Asia in the last few months. Shimkovitz will swing through New York on Thursday, November 19th to play tapes at Output's intimate Panther Room, where he'll be joined by SK Kakraba, the Ghanaian xylophonist who released an album on Awesome Tapes in October. The next night he'll head to BAMcafé, a live music venue built into a loft above the Brooklyn Academy of Music in Fort Greene.
