  • South London's World Unknown parties will become less frequent, with co-founder Andy Blake revealing he's taking the event off the monthly circuit. World Unknown, which Blake runs with Joe Hart, will now only happen "very occasionally," Blake told RA. "The change has been coming for a while but we didn't want to rush into it," he says. "All kinds of reasons surround these kind of changes but the main one is that I'd quite like to have some time to jump on planes and trains and DJ in other places and running a monthly party properly for six years takes up a much larger amount of my time and energy than it might first appear. It's fun for sure and incredibly fulfilling but it isn't always a walk in the park, especially that year or so between the arch and the love pub where Amy and I were having to find new venues every month and deal with all kinds of 'very interesting' people. we managed it somehow and never missed one though and I'm fairly proud of that." Blake adds: "The party landscape on WU's patch has changed dramatically over the last few years. When we started six years back we were pretty much the only monthly in south-east London where people looking for something different could gather and over the last couple of years there are a bunch of parties every weekend that cater for that community that built up at WU in the sweaty, smoky Brixton arch. That can only be a brilliant thing and means that Amy, Joe and myself can focus on other stuff and develop new ideas. Joe and Scott Fraser are smashing it up east with Body Hammer having taken on a whole new lease of life, and Amy and I have started doing parties that loosely group together under the Magickfm banner, which is really just an email address where you can get hold of the info more than an actual name, and most definitely not a brand—whatever that actually means. In short, it's an amazing time for all of us and going occasional with WU rather than regular will only add to the fun and creative possibilities all round." The next World Unknown is happening on Easter Thursday, March 24th, at a TBA location. As always, it'll be Andy Blake and Joe Hart behind the decks all night.
