- Due out in May, was recorded in the Turkish cultural capital with local musicians.
Débruit's fourth album, Débruit & Istanbul, will land on ICI on May 27th.
The album was commissioned by the Europalia Arts Festival, which has been organizing arts biennials in different countries since 1969. It sees Débruit, real name Xavier Thomas, collaborating with a number of high-profile Turkish musicians: fusion-jazz percussionist Okay Temiz, '70s funk star Mustapha Özkent and clarinetist Cüneyt Sepetçi, among others.
"I wanted this album to be driven by the feelings I got from Istanbul and my encounters," Thomas says. "The city has such an inspiring mix of tradition and forward-thinking vision. It has a pulse of its very own." His new live show, inspired by the LP, was first exhibited in Brussels at the contemporary art venue BOZAR alongside work by French conceptual artist Sophie Calle. He'll take the show on the road from France to Belgium, Istanbul, German and Croatia over the next few months.
