  • Aphex Twin seemingly has a new EP on the way via Warp Records. Word of the new release spread to the internet when record stores began posting photos of an amusing, old-school magazine-style advertisement for the Cheetah EP. (Pitchfork linked to a photo of the advert tweeted by Leeds shop Norman Records.) The teaser takes on the form of a synthesizer advertisement, saying:
The Aphex Twin Cheetah EP uses digital sound generation techniques combined with wave sequencing technology to bring you sounds with movement and depth rarely found on records today… please be sure to read the owners manual carefully before attempting to operate the Cheetah EP. If you wish to experiment and create some sounds of your own, first try editing some sounds we've already made for you, before attempting to create a patch from scratch... Have fun programming, and if you create any superb patches and tones which you feel deserve to be appreciated by other Cheetah EP buyers, send a MIDI System Exclusive Dump of them, on a disc to us at WARP.
The news follows Richard D. James' appearance on the recent Trip compilation, When I Was 14. The AFX track included on that one, "P String," originally made its way online last year, when James uploaded a series of demos to SoundCloud without fanfare. Warp Records will release Cheetah soon.
