  • Tri Angle Records has signed Brooklyn-based singer serpentwithfeet and released his first single, "Flickering." Baltimore-born artist Josiah Wise spent time in Paris and London before landing in NYC's queer music underground a few years ago. "I decided in 2012 or in 2013 that I didn't want a band anymore," he says. "I was like, 'What would happen if I did my R&B thing over this classical shit?'… I didn't start thinking about that until I moved to New York, to be honest." Wise credits both Brandy and Björk as inspirations, and his sound weaves together gospel with gentle electronica. He's the latest signing to Tri Angle Records, whose roster includes a number of experimental pop and R&B projects. "I was basically just posting something new every week on SoundCloud, waiting for someone to take notice," Wise explains. They released his debut single today, "Flickering," which was produced and mixed by UK sound artist The Haxan Cloak. The label hasn't announced any other EPs or LPs, though all of the tracks from the singer's prolific Soundcloud account have been taken down, meaning some might be scheduled for release soon. Listen to "Flickering."
